When they first got there I did feel a bit stressed not knowing what to do. But my SIL's mother was also there for the week and we hit if off so I did have someone to be with when the other two were around. The girlfriend and I got along great....with one exception. I was making the salads for my grandson's graduation party and she wanted me to change what I was doing to make it her recipes. I told her that it was my daughters house and I was doing things her way as it was her party...her guests....her recipies. Other then that I was cordial....and found that my ex is an old man now. I hadn't seen him in quite a while. Certainly not anything like when we were married.....I told my daughter is was like talking to a classmate. The girlfriend and I actually had some pretty deep conversations...and ended up hugging goodbye. So it worked out well. For me anyway!

Hmm.. It's one thing to be friendly for a couple of days when you're forced to stay together.. but to actually become friends with an ex's girlfriend? No, I don't see that happening, especially since it's not like your kids are little and would be living with her some of the time.

Glad it worked out for you! It sounds like everyone was pretty mature. Some people can be very insistent about their recipes, huh?

That's just great Jill, and I bet you're glad it's all over. I'm happy to hear that you had a great time and someone to hang around with too. Good for you in explaining to her it was your daughter's house, and the salads were to be made her way with her recipes. Sounds almost like she was trying a bit of psychology on you to see if you'd go along with her, sort of like a power play if you know what I mean. I'm glad you stood firm, kudo's to you. I'd be kind of hesitant though on becoming really good friends as that just might backfire somehow. You really don't know her yet, and I'm sure she was on her best behavior over there, and you just don't know how good her intentions are yet. It's nice to hear you had a good time though, yea!

Hey jill! Wow! That must have been very interesting! I give you alot of credit for being cordial to begin with and then to end up hitting it off with the girlfriend! That is really nice! And just think, she's got the "old man" and all the grief now, unless maybe after meeting you she changed her mind! Now wouldn't that be funny?

Hiya jill, There that was not so bad was it. You are so resourceful Jill that you managed to take the situation as it came up. Good to see that you managed it so well. I donĀ“t know what I would have done there probably something similar but I have not come across this kind of situation just yet. Nice to see you were able to make the best of it anyway.

Hiya Jill, So glad it did. You deserved a nice Holiday without any problems of that kind. No one needs to go on Holiday and put up with other Problems just for the sake of it. Good for you Jill.

I thought about this discussion for a long time. Am glad you posted another discussion explaining how the trip went and everything worked out fine. I can see where it could be terribly awkward in this kind of situation.

I'm glad it all worked out so well. Everyone had a good time and it appears if you want that you could make another friend. I see nothing wrong with being friends with the new girlfriend. It doesn't aappear that any of you live in the same towns so it's not like you get together regularly. Hope it all goes the way you would like it too. Happy Mylotting!!!

Thats great it went well. It probably made a difference that you saw him as an old man, and that would have eased the situation, and you had company of the other mother in law so it would not be so awkward.Glad you had a great time.

Yup....I said what needed to be said only....my daughter also appreciated it...said if I had changed one of the salads her kids love they wouldn't have eaten it the way she suggested.

I'm glad everything went well for u,Jill. I know u are a better lady than i am to even put yourself in that situation to start with. I hope your daughter understood how it was for u. I have been around my first ex & his wife a few times at various time & it doesn't bother me but i couldn't do that around my second ex . Glad u are back home safe & sound. Have a good week.

I think that's great. There is something in both of you that fell in love with the same guy. I wonder though, if you were som comfortable if she felt a little at a loss. although if you both shared the conversations prolly not! Glad you had fun AZ is soooooooooooooo beautiful.
