I would like to start selling random stuff....books, trinkets, hand crafted items. Should I use e-bay or is there a better online auction site out there? Share your experiences as an e-bay seller with me.

Hi I would personally look around for other auction sites, as e-bay is way too expensive with their fees. I use to use e-bay ,but now I have my own shop on another Austraian auction site and only pay minimal fees, and doing reasonably well with. I think e-bay is overated and there are a lot of scammers as well.

Over the past number of years I have sold many items on ebay of my personal things which I no longer wanted or needed. I have made a fair amount on random items - a couple of months I made around £70 (england pound) each month leading up to Christmas. It is amazing what sells. I once sold a childs necklace which I had bought when I was young for about £1.00 and someone bid £12.00 for it! They were so pleased too! The only thing to remember is that it is an austion site so it will all depend upon who is on when your items go up. Look closely at insertation fees too. I always started my items off at £0.99 which was free insertation on the UK ebay though if you do that you do risk someone winning the item for that low amount so any items you really want a specific amount for start at a higher starting bid or set a reserve price. I also reccomend using paypal as payment method - you tend to get more bidders that way. Also check postage prices carefully so you dont lose money. I actually got some simple weighing scales with a postage price list and weighed all my items at the same time adding a little on for petrol etc. Good luck in your ebay selling!

I have only sold a few items, a couple of years ago, but it was a nice experience. The biggest thing is to keep in contact with the buyer throughout the selling process. Let them know when you receive payment, when you mail, and they when they receive.
