Well i get viruses a lot cause i download multiple things on my computer. Worms, trojans and other malicious softwares that makes my computer slow and prone to hardware damage. But every time i do get one i fix it if it cant be fixed i reformat my own computer and start from scratch. I'm just wondering how can i fix my computer without reformatting cause it really is time consuming. Anti-viruses are a good idea. What else can i add so i can avoid reformatting?

You will need to be cautious while downloading things into your computer. first of all install some anti-virus which has good internet protection with it. you can try the avg internet protection anti-virus or mcafee. create system restore points. why start from scratch, backup your os partition frequently(Schedule Backups) this will help you a lot. even if the backup has virus , one you format scan that backup and then restore your system.

I am experiencing similar issue on my laptop, everyday I scan and delete the same virus, I am tired of this daily scan. I have Symentac anti virus which is good as people say but I do not see this being effective. Also I do update just to make sure that I have the latest updates. I am going to follow this discussion if something good comes out for me

To protect your computer from virus you should careful before download anything. As most of the virus come when we do download. And open your anti virus so when ever any virus will come to your pc the anti virus will kill it.

Having an Antivirus program is usually the best start, but nearly enough in this 21st century computer world. Firewalls & anti-malware(spyware and adware, trojans, etc.) programs are more of a requirement now more than ever than they did way back in early 90s. Even if you add one anti-malware program, such as Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, each anti-malware program does have its own flaws and it is usually recommended to have a minimum of two anti-malware programs. I use both at home and at work Malwarebyes Anti-Malware and Superantispyware. If you keep these up to date frequently and run scans on a regular basis you should be fine. However, if your still getting them, you probably should examine closely what you are doing on the computer when they show up, so as to be able to better help you know where it came from, and evaluate if you may need to change your anti-virus program.

Try to use a good free AV.I use Microsoft Security Essential from some time now, and it does the job.I would dare to say that it is the best free AV I ever had.

I have found that a good antivirus is my best option. I have used several, however like Panda the best. It is provided to me thorough an organization we belong to. I scan about every three days. Since I have switched to Panda, which stops viruses before they get to my hard drive...I am not at risk for having to reformat.

well reformatting you C: drive won't work as if your system infected with virus once you need to format whole hard disk to remove virus from the disk. and the best way to get rid from virus is obviously antivirus. which will keep your system protective.

I guess you just have to backup your stuff and format it, start all over again. Waht to do, since you never installed any anti-virus and like to download programs and visited sites that you know that are a storehouse of viruses, and from the way you put it, you know what are worms and trojans, and they cause serious damage. You already have the answer yourselves. Good luck!

I suggest you install a DEEPFREEZE in you PC. It better than anti-virus. If you get infected, just restart your computer and everything will go back to its original settings. All files and virus that entered your hardisk will be deleted.

I download a lot too, but it seems viruses are not so rampant like your condition. Maybe you can use a virtual machine, download in VM, if get viruses, delete the VM is ok. VMware is a good virtual machine.

Yes viruses are very harmful for our computer because they make our system speed slow we face many kind of technical problem due to this so we always aware about these malicious software and try to save our computer from unprotected sites and never download any thing from untrusted sites.
