Almost Ripped Off

Hi guys!
Sorry I just feel like venting today and at the same time I want to share that I have almost been ripped off by a dog breeder. I went to another vet clinic 1 hour away from my home just to see what other services they have and also because I felt that my vet does not give the kind of service I am looking for. Anyway, this whole thing led to a shocking discovery!
I told him that I have a terrier mix and a bullmastiff. The conversation led to the breeders. First off guys I am a newbie and do not know much yet about all this doggy thingy. Anyway he asked me where I bought my dog and I said from that breeder. He anticipated first whether or not he should tell me or not. But I urged him to, he told me that he was in a big controversy last week because there was this guy who brought in a sick puppy who was very week and would not eat. Anyway he checked the pup and it has kennel cough and it was from the same breeder and the same litter as Missy. The guy went back to the breeder and return the puppy but the breeder did not accept it anymore and he was told they would shoulder half of the expenses. The breeder and the other vet got mad at the pet owner because the guy did not bring the sick pup to the other vet and thus all this word war against the other vet.
I remembered when I went to visit her kennel the dogs were coughing and they had colds.Green mucus were evident on their noses. All of the litter had cough and there was a 3 month old male St.Bernard who was also affected with kennel cough. I asked the breeder but she said casually that it was nothing and the vet said it was okay. Me being a trusting idiot took her word for it. Another thing the story that the vet told me coincided with the story she told me. But she said she accepted the dog back and had the guy pick another dog. Which was different from what the vet told me. The thing that really made me very wary was that last saturday when I visited Missy she had purulent yellowish eye discharges. On sunday she brought Missy to me even when I did not pay her a cent yet because I had some issues withdrawing from my bank with paypal. Today she took her back saying she will have to take Missy for another 5 in 1 shot and return her tomorrow.
You know its very sad because Missy and I have bonded already but I cannot risk the health of my other puppy Louise. The vet told me that if I do take in Missy I would have to vaccinate her every 6 months for bordatella and the virus stays within her body and would reactivate if she gets stressed like pregnancy. Guys this is a very hard decision to make but I have to say no to the breeder. I would have to refuse Missy. I have to take care of Louise as well although Louise is vaccinated against bordatella, the malshih twins will be arriving soon. I just cant risk that.
I feel so mad at the breeder for trying to put me in a shotgun deal. She has been pushing me since day one even when I told her that my money is still tied up, she said she will wait for me. I told her too that if someone gets Missy she can sell it I'll wait for the next litter from the other dog but still she pushed that I get Missy. Tomorrow she will be calling me and I have to be prepared for an angry caller.
What would you do if you were in this situation? Would you do the same or just take Missy because you have agreed on it already?

I would NEVER bring any dog or cat home that was sick, and could complicate the health of my other pets. I think you are doing the correct thing, and refuse the dog.
This whole ordeal sounds crazy. You can also check with the state you live in to see what the rules, refunds, etc. are with breeders. Every state is different.
She just seems like she wants to get rid of this pup since she's pushing it on you...I wouldn't do it. Something sounds wrong all the way around. Good luck and I hope you make the right decision!

My city is quite backwards yet compared to the US states. Yup you are right this si all crazy. Yup the breeder might be a nice person but she is kinda pushy. Oh dear, I was put into a spot for this deal. I tried to veer away from our deal but she is insistent. Anyway both vets are engaged in heated word wars and unfortunately they are the only vets in the city so darn I do not know who is telling the truth. The breeder and I came to an agreement that I would take back Missy on the grounds that both vets give her a clean bill of health. I guess my condition is just and fair. Because if not I wil not take Missy back and she won't get her money!

I guess that sounds fair enough having BOTH vets check Missy out. I hope this all works out for you one way or the other, seeing you have more pups coming home soon, correct?
I think your decision is just and reasonable, and the breeder should understand completely. Otherwise, I would stay far away from her because something is wrong. Good luck!

Well, I know that you've already bonded with Missy, but I wouldn't personally ever bring a sick animal into my home because I already have three pets and I wouldn't want to risk any of their health. In fact, we are getting a kitten in a few days and I even had to debate about her because one of the dogs that they have up there had to be put down a couple weeks ago because she got sick with a fatal disease. The reason that we are still bringing Buttercup home is because the kittens have always been inside and the dog was never allowed inside.
