in the philippines, we have what we call askal or asong kalye or in english street dogs..they have no special breed but we love them as much as we love other dogs..even though they only live in the streets some good people take them home and others really train them and sometimes can be cast in television..and they can be cute too..but I also like other dogs..the small ones so I can take them anywhere like barbie and I'll groom them too..I want the hairy ones though they can be smelly..

My favorite breed of dog is the Newfoundland dog. Even though they often slobber and are slimey, they have a lot of hair and they are very gentle. I have had newfoundlands for a number of years.

They ar large and hiry. Most of my newfs have been landseers (black and white). IF they drool a lot, and some of them do, then they have slime under their chins, from the drool. You can see my newfs at www.kaylar.com/newfs

Yup Katkat is right it's now called asong pinoy or ASPIN. I guess any type of dog is trainable it just depends on how much dedication and patience and commitment one put into training this dog. ASPINS are just like any other kind of dog but Pinoys often look down on this native dog as less than it's foreign cousins. I've had a beautiful native dog when I was 4 and she passed away when I was 15, I've had wonderful memories of this dog, she was my nanny dog, my friend and yes my confidant! Want someone you can tell all and not spill your secrets--- lol that's a dog. Anyway my native dog was well adapted and she would have passed obedience class with flying colors. We never trained her but she acted as if she was really trained. Right now I have a Jack Russell mix, 2 malshihs and yes a purebred bullmastiff and they are all adorable too. I cannot say I like this one better than this one. Each has its own unique personality and has its own way of getting to your heart.

yes i think they changed it to aspin for a more respectable name because askal sounds like a bad word..we also have dogs like that and when I was a kid I had adog named goldilocks and yes you're right they have different personalities just like people..and mine is stubborn but sweet..I remembered the time they gave her away to one of our relatives and she looks so sad and was like crying..that's just the time i saw her quiet..

I love mixed breed dogs because they are unique and you're never sure exactly what they're going to look like when they grow up! I suppose that's a good argument for people who think they must have a pure breed, but some of us dog lovers enjoy surprises. Mixed breed dogs do tend to be genetically healthier than many pure breed dogs, especially those who come from puppy mills. As for particular breeds, I've always been a fan of German Shepherds. They are handsome dogs and have intimidating reputations, even though they are pussycats when they are raised right! I like Beagles, too. They're clownish and funny little dogs, lots of energy and love kids. But they do bark a lot!

wow that's good..we even have a mixed breed dog..one half pit bull and one half aspin..this dog is really energetic but less scary than the big pure breed pit bulls..she's sweet but too energetic so she's a bit scary when she just wants to play with you..she jumps a lot although she's a bit heavy. but she's cute

Asong kalye or askal is now called Aspin or Asong Pinoy. These dogs are native dogs and should not be called asong kalye. There have been organizations and events that educates people about Aspin. One known celebrity in the Philippines that actively take part in educating people is Heart Evangelista. The actress have pure breed dogs and Aspin.
