Which way to go?

In a discussion the discussion starter wanted to know how best one can earn in myLot to which one user wrote: ".......You do not get paid for our responses do not you know this, have not you read the information you should have read when you signed up:? you get paid for what you post and make comments on the responses you get as thats where you can really make money. also do not be stingy with writing, use four or five lines to really flesh out what you are saying. it is quality not quantity here and the better your writing the more you can make. i always make more than a dollar a day every day you must make a fleshed out discussion making it clear to us what you are talking about so that we can respond intelligently to you. just slow down and make your posts more meaty and you will get more each day I guarantee it......." And yet, another group here is sure that by making "nonsense comments" one can have fun and also earn. Which way to go?

Well i didnt imply that all our interactions in our boxes to be "nonsense"----i was being sarcastic in my post and you would have known the reason behind if you had some time to visit the second page of my discussion. One of the mylotters tagged our interactions to be nonsense in my previous discussion so did i come up with that post----and i dont mean that they make no sense at all in anyway.i wouldnt deny some people tagging them to be BS coz they dont get our comments---theres no way they get them as their comfort levels differ from us and we never force someone to join us and i never barged into a strangers box to make fun of their response either.I did clearly mention that having fun holds for MY FRIENDS DISCUSSIONs ONLY.hope its clear now

Sunny you quite rightly quoted the term that was used on your other discussion by that user and, as often happens, it is now causing a stir (and causing us to have something to discuss too! ). I am still convinced that 'nonsense' is in the eye of the beholder. I also believe that if many took their time to read many of those long chains, they would also see that they usually follow a logical train of thought and, though they may seem at a glance to be garbage, they almost always follow a logical sequence and do exactly what myLot ask of us - they further the topic! They are FUN and many of us come here for that and seeing as myLot tell us that FUN is allowed here, seems that we have the ok to continue with them - and probably earn for them too when they contribute to the whole general dicsussion. There are none so blind as those who do not want to see

I agree Sunny! I avoid politics and religion because I don't find them to be my idea of fun but I have nothing against those who enjoy discussing them. I never even go there and I would certainly never go to tell others that they should not be doing something just because it doesn't appeal to me. Live and let live is my view

If those serious ones hate to go through our long boxes then why bother to tag our interactions to be nonsense. If i were them i would have prefer to walk away from that post than to barge in and tag those "to and forth interactions" to be meaningless. We do know that we're enjoying exchanging those comments---it wouldnt be so wise to explain about the true meaning of fun which is BS in their opinion

I agree that you can have fun as well as earn. But I am sure "nonsense comments" is not going to earn me much. I am having fun, at the same time, I only respond to those discussions I am interested in. And if my friends respond to the same discussion, or I see someone who thinks the same way, we might get sidetracked to different things, to have fun. Or I might join a discussion where some friends are having fun. So, yeah, if you are just here to earn, then the best way would be to post quality discussions all the time.

Who decides what is 'nonsense'? This so much reminds me of my favourite discussion in the whole of last year. It was asking users if they respond to 'stupid' discussions. It went on for pages and the outcome was that we agreed that what is a 'stupid' topic for one is not so for another. It's all a case of... of what? Culture? Education? The way each one of us interpret the Guidelines (and remember that they are just that, guidelines? What stays up and what doesn't? Your earnings at the end of the month? If it depends on the last thing then I doubt that there would be so many involved in all that fun if they didn't see their earnings increasing Food for thought surely?

Diana - You made a valid point and that is interpreting the guidelines. Even me who is cat's whiskers when it comes to understanding English gets confused. When two people who think differently and interpret guidelines differently participate in a common discussion that discussion is bound to go hay wire.

Too true. Can't argue with that. Different people, different views. What is garbage to you may be useful for me. Whatever it is...I am here to have fun and if I can pick up a few cents on the way, great, if not, no problemo. Trying to count every post to see how much I would earn in a day - too stressful for me.

I do notice that making quality replies pays off. On the other hand, if you post a quality reply to a discussion that isn't abiding to all mylot rules and they delete the whole thread, there was no point for your effort all together. The 'question and answer discussions' that you see frequently aren't much material to work with when it comes down to making a 'meaty response' as your respondent called it. However, I do enjoy making quality responses to the discussions that I like, short nonsence comments might be quick earners if you don't get caught but I don't like them that much; it's not the point why you join a discussion board like mylot.

A quality response which then continues with shorter comments can be just as interesting, very worthwhile and if it furthers the topic is exactly the same as a conversation offline would be. Responses that are short and to the point are often all that is needed too. Maybe this was not made clear, but there is a difference between a responsee and the comments that come later to further the response itself.

I guess you can say I'm not into nonsense answers, just to make a few cents. I don't answer discussions too much that I have no interest in, or if I feel I cannot make a decent interesting comment. Some of my responses are quite long, depending on the subject, plus I want to make myself perfectly clear so they understand. So many people here are from different countries and do not clearly get the picture or meaning of your answer. So, I just do my own thing, and sometimes my answers will be shorter just to keep in touch with my friends here on myLot. You can have fun either way I suppose, but I like to keep it real.

Yes I fully agree with you. The one who has initiated a discussion should not feel the need to pick wheat from chaff.

I agree. I don't just respond for no reason. I have to genuinely have an interest in the discussion or have something useful to write. I do like getting paid money to respond, bu tin no way, shape or form am I going to write a nonsense reply. It's not only a waste of time for me, but also for the discussion and for the person who posted the discussion.

There is yet another aspect Stephanie and that is it is not only those initiating discussions want to know something but others too. They read responses to discussions initiated by others and when one has to pick wheat from chaff it becomes difficult. I too believe in having fun and one can have fun at the same time contribute positively.

I hoped you would ask this because I have so much wanted to answer it! Mine will be a long response - so be warned! The response that you quoted contradicts itself and does not contain all official information from the myLot FAQs. 'use four or five lines to really flesh out what you are saying' Nowhere in the FAQs do myLot mention that only a certain number of lines or more will earn for us. That is pure specualtion by the users who continue to post this phrase and is NOT something myLot tell us. 'it is quality not quantity...' Doesn't that next phrase now saythe opposite of the previous one. First the user says to write a lot, then they say that quality is better than quantity I recognise the user who wrote that response and there must be a reason that they are the top-rated user here don't you think? Taje a look at their discussions. In every topic there IS something to discuss and the opportunity to write much in our responses on their topics Now to the second part: 'And yet, another group here is sure that by making "nonsense comments" one can have fun and also earn' The term used 'nonsense comments' was coined by another user and was then quoted elsewhere for the purpose of a discussion. What is nonsense to one is not nonsense to another, and vice-versa. What is stupid to me might not be stupid to you right? MyLot tell us: 'post discussions, respond to discussions, comment on discussions, or perform searches. Post quality content. For example, generate discussions that engage other users and provide insightful responses and comments to other users discussions to further the topic' http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq6.aspx#14 When we sign up here, BEFORE we sign up we can read this: '* Earn Money! I guess that all the stuff here that, as long as it follows the Guidelines but also Fits Under Nothing is allowed here too Some of us are not here to earn something for every single line that we type. Some of us are perfectly happy to keep the ball rolling and we have realised that we are not at school to and we do what rocks out boat if it is fitting. I hope that can help you to understand how some of us spend out time here on this playground. It doesn't mean that everyone else has to but it seems that we are doing nothing that is not allowed by myLot themselves - what say?

kengoshika that's my point Who decides what is the definition of nonsense here? I am convinced that if everything flows with the topic then it is only nonsense to those who do not read ALL of what is going on Welcome to myLot!

I guess it depends on the topic. So opinions are good and some are funny,i guess it depends on the skills of the writer how he can contribute to the disccussion according to his knowledge, experience and summary for other information tips from other comments.I guess it is important to share opinions and to learn also from mylot.HAving fun is vital also.

As far as my concern one earn very little in spite of the efforts.May be the responses or discussions which are corroborate with so many lines that make sense help. But not much. People who are here just for the fun of it cannot just count the lines and type.It is so painful.

I prefer quality as compared to quantity. It used to be quantity I think, but I think they realised that people made used of that loophole, so I think it's mostly quality now? I'm not sure, since I hardly write more than 10 posts nowadays... too lazy to respond I guess.

Anytime you start a discussion and you comment back to the responders, then, you should make your comments as descriptive as you can. You get paid for how in depth your answer is. It is true that you don't earn for the responses, only for what you do. I do like to help other users myself when they questions about how mylot works, but I also tell them to read the fazs and guidelines, as all the answers that they are seeking would be there. I am not trying to be mean when I tell them that, it is just that if they would read the guidelines first, then they would know the answers to the questions they might have. Usually, the discussions that ask how to earn in here, are deleted because they can seek the answers in the guidelines if they would only read them. I hope this has helped you. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.
