I have seen image files that can be seen without opening them, Windows has that feature, by viewing with the thumbnails option. I have also used software that can preview powerpoint presentations without opening them. Preview psd files or adobe photoshop files, I have also used. But I haven't find any software that can preview Word documents or give a snapshot of what's inside it without opening them. My need of that arose this afternoon when I was searching for a specific word document. Sometimes it's hard to search for a specific document specially if the filenames are not appropriate to it's contents. That's the reason why I came up with this topic. I hope there is already a software that can preview Word documents. It can saves time. Have you also come up with what I have thought? Do you think it will be beneficial if there will be a software that can preview Word documents?

i really never heard of a software that can preview a word document. but with the statement you gave, if you are searching for it, you can open your file manager or my computer, i guess, and you can search from there, the document you wanted to open, by searching some keywords, or part of the document that you can remember, a word or phrase for example. another thing, i remember using microsoft word. while opening a document file, you can preview its content before actually opening it. in that case, you already have MS Word open and you search the document from there. i now use openoffice so i cannot give you exact procedure on how to do it.

I do not know of any software that will preview Word documents in that way, but you can find the appropriate document with Windows Search. This will work just as well for contents of a file as it does for finding files by name. Simply enter a word or phrase that is included in the document and Windows will display all files containg that text, so if you select a unique phrase then it will pinpoint the exact document. For example if you had the discussion that you have posted in a document then "software that can preview" would be an appropriate phrase to search for. If you know which folder the document is in you can simply open that folder and press Ctrl+F to launch Find and search that folder only.

Hi asylum! Yah, Windows Search is really useful and I actually often use it. It is very useful when the filename of the document you are searching is appropriate to it's contents, if not, it will be hard to search for it. That's why it came to my mind and make me dream of a software that can give a snapshot or preview of Word documents. If that feature will be added in Windows search where it gives preview of all the files that it has found, then it will really be great and really helps a lot. I hope there will really be a software like that. Thank you for your response.

Hi la_chique! Well, it's good to know, unfortunately I am not using mac os, and still have no plan, since it's not that popularly used it here yet. I hope somebody will also come up with that kind of software for windows os. But yah, maybe if I will have time and decide to use another os aside from windows, I will also try mac. Thank you for the info. :)
