My dog barks whenever anybody in the family leaves. He barks for hours and even goes through his doggy door on the back porch and barks out there. My neighbors say is is annoying because he doesn't stop for a while. What can i do to stop this? He crys whenever you pick up the keys and dont bring him. He is really sad and just disappointed when we leave for the day and go to work.

my pup used to do the same thing. that's probably separation anxiety. how old is S/He?? My puppy keeps on barking/whining everytime I left him outside our house and that was really annoying. What I did is spend time playing with him, then when he gets busy, I left him alone, when he notice that I'm gone, he'll starts barking again, so I go outside the house again, just to show him that I didn't actually left. I keep doing this until the pups gets used to it. Now, he's a happy dog! :-)

First, make sure your dog is well-exercised. Dogs will bark out of boredom or to relieve pent-up energy so if you make sure he's ready for a nap that might help. If separation anxiety is the true problem, then make your leaving and coming back home as uneventful as possible. When you walk out the door, don't say goodbye to your dog or try to reassure him, and when you come home, ignore his excited greetings; wait until he's calmed down to greet him. You might try jingling your keys throughout the day when you don't plan to leave, so he gets used to the noise and doesn't always associate it with your leaving. You might also try leaving the TV or radio on (a talk show on the radio) so he hears the sound of human voices and doesn't feel so alone. Get him a puzzle toy, one that you can fill will kibble or treats, and give it to him when you leave; it may entertain him for a while and give him something to look forward to when you do leave. Here's a link to an article about training dogs not to bark; you may find some information here you can use: http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-train-a-dog-not-to-bark

There are ways to train your dog out of this problem. Look on the Internet and at Cesar's book for answers.
