My house is falling apart!

I think it's the time where everything in my house is needing repair. Our solarium has water damage, our heating panel just detached itself from our ceiling and we had to replace our washing machine and dishwasher not too long ago. I feel like everything happens at one time. It's hard to save for things when everything needs repair at one time. It's so frustrating! Has this ever happened to you? Something in your house needs repair and then not even a week later, something else needs repair too?

I understand completely Stephanie, because that is my life..My house has never been put together and it takes years for anything to get done..Then when my husband decides to fix something, something more important breaks down, causing more stress on me.. I really need to get a job, all my extra income is going to repairing this house once and for all..

It's such a frustrating feeling. Same here. We really don't even have a finished floor in one of our rooms. It's just painted concrete. It does take years to get repairs done, especially when they're so expensive.

That stinks! The heating panel fell down in our dining room. Good thing it didn't hit the fish tank! That would have been a bigger mess!

Hi Stephanie, when I started my carrier in the Railway 45 years ago, I was assigned the task of repairing Steam Locomotives. They were giant of locomotives, running at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour. They weighed nearly 170 tones. The Loco Shed housed nearly 250 locomotives. They were always in dire need of repairs. One strange thing I noticed about them was that if one locomotive developed a defect the other locomotives too had the same problem almost simultaneously. It appeared that though locomotives were inanimate objects they commiserated with the problem of others. Another thing I learnt was that as the saying goes, "A stitch in time saves nine", you have to take care of the problem immediately otherwise the problem multiplies. Same thing I do now with home appliances. If a gadget is need of repairs, I do not wait but get it repaired immediately. If I don't do that, all the gadgets will suffer breakdown at the same time and then I find myself stranded.

That's really interesting about the trains. I guess trains have feelings too! And apparently so do household appliances. How annoying! I thought I just had to deal with people!

My car is like that too. All the time this is what happens, and I am beginning to think it is because of the way I think about my things. If I think I am bad with electronics and motors or whatever then they always seem to get broken or wrecked. I am very gentle with books though, and most of my books are in peak condition. So I am thinking that if we choose only to think that things were great and always worked they would work more often. And things would work out that it would be easier on us when it was time to fix them. The universe conspires to give us what we think about most, especially when we think about it with great feeling. Better make that feeling a positive one though. Sincerely and With Appreciation.

Smart parents, I think if you are pessimistic about ANY thing, then negative things will happen to you. In my world there is a little more then just being positive, and it is a recent transition, though I must say, I never believed smiling would do such good for my life. Boy, was I wrong. Cheers.

Don't underestimate the power of smiling. A simple smile does go a long way. The children at my work make me smile and laugh and it just brightens up my mood entirely.

My parents always say that positive thinking is the way to go. If you're pessimistic about everything, negative things happen to you.

I am in the same spot, we repair what we have to, and that list is getting longer and longer.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. How old your house is now? I havn't experienced that, but I can understand your feeling. The problems came one by one, all of the time were wasted on repairing the house. It's really terrible.

I'm actually not too sure about that. Over twenty years old, because I'm nineteen years old and I was born in the house. Apparently the people who originally built the house didn't do the best of jobs.

Wow. That's a lot of times. How come you moved? Where'd you move to?

A week later? More like a day or two later. LOL, one things for sure I will miss my house but certainly will not miss the daily unforeseen expenses. Good luck to you will your home. It is however a joy to be able to make the repairs and sigh with great accomplishment; that you did it yourselves.

I think it's more of a money factor for us. When we have the money, then there will be a sigh of relief! I know! Everything happens at once. It's annoying, isn't it?

It sure is! It is as a roller-coaster ride. Up, up and up and eventually down again. Hope you get everything resolved.

HiStephanieAnnC, It does seem that in life when one thing goeswrong everything else seems too but then again we have times where everything is going so well that human nature sometimes asks how long it will last and then suddenly bump back to earth things go wrong. I have a run last year, with washing machine dishwaher and tv. This week the run for the rabbits has finally collasped so I need to buy new. Sorry tohear that so much is going wrong right now, there wikll a turning point back the other way soon. Huggles. Ellie :D

hi stephnieannc with us it was things with warranties or guarantees to a certain time, and just as the time expires, the fridge went out, and the heater went out but since we were renting the management had to repair that one.Yes then my power source to my computer went futz and quit just like that, but in the fine print there was a guarantee on this part yet so we got a new power source without its costing a thing. When I worked on surgical and ob floors many years back we had a saying, things come in three, you get an emergency surgery at one am. you will have two more before the night is over.on the ob floor a baby is born at midnight and two more are sure to follow, one at two o clock, one at four thirty,it really did happen that way at times.

Go figure that the appliances would die right when the guarantee ends. That's usually how it works too. I wonder if manufacturers do that on purpose. Most people are out to get a lot of money nowadays, so it wouldn't faze me one bit if they did.

My second house was a foreclosure and for the first two years it was always something. We are in a new house now (well less than 5 years old at this point), so we only rarely have repairs that are needed. It's a huge pain not to mention a financial drain when too many things go at once!

I agree. That's the main problems with repairing things that are broken. When they all go at once, the money is an issue.

It sounds like you have a very expensive task ahead of you! Thankfully I'm not in your situation as I don't own the property that I live in! I'm renting and so if I experience any maintenance problems with the flat then I give my landlady a call and she handles everything! That's the disadvantage of owning your own home! However, the advantage is that you do actually own your own home and you don't have to pay out on rent and things. There have been times in the past when something needed doing within the flat and I asked my landlady whether she would be happy with me completing the task and she's been fine with that. If I can do something myself then I don't mind playing the good tenant! I suppose the only way to go in relation to your own situation is to save and try and complete one task at a time. This is the only realistic way of getting things done in today's climate as things are difficult financially for most people now. Well, if the roof is need of repair I would get that done first as you don't want that falling on your head during the night!Andrew

Goodness! I hope the roof doesn't fall! Yikes! It seems so much easier to live in an apartment. Cleaning doesn't take as long since it's usually smaller than a house and you just give your landlord a ring. Lucky you!

it would not have appeared suddenly one fine morning.Just you missed them in the starting of the complaints. There would be some indications which you would have ignored for any reason.Just we should have it in mind," a stitch in time saves nine".

Well, apparently their complaints were too subtle! I didn't even notice they were going!

This is one of the biggest reason's I never wanted to buy a house! Repairs jobs would kill me like they are with you! At least when you rent your landlord repairs what needs repairing! Knowing my luck the whole would be falling apart at once! I'm glad I never wanted or will by a house! I feel for you!!

Well, technically my parents own the house, but I feel for them. I would hate having to constantly repair a house too. Thanks for the concern though.

Thank God this hasn't happened to me but I do remember it happening to my parents many times. Like the fridge and washer would go out at the same time. On top of that there would be plumbing problem too. So many times it was at least three things within a week. I just couldn't believe the bad luck I felt my parents were always having. I guess alot of people go through this unfortunately. Maybe its because the applicances are usually brought all at the same time and they have a basic lifespan of their own. I don't know but its not fun having to deal with all of that when money is low. Sorry that you are going through all this at one time.

Either way, it's frustrating! I do agree that I think most of the appliances were purchased at the same time, so that might be the culprit!
