The tank partition came in handy

Somebody on here recommended a tank partition back when I posted about our bullying goldfish and how it had eaten one of the other fish. We took the partition out when bully fish died. And then Cary came home with Zero the crayfish, now renamed Double because her claws have grown back. Last week Cary was looking into the tank. Double had the fish's fin in her claw and the fish couldn't get away. Cary was very unhappy and told us we shouldn't have put the crayfish into the goldfish tank. But we just pulled out the old tank partition and divided the tank up once again. Now the crayfish lives on the side with the barrel, where she can hide, and the goldfish lives on the other side, minus a small piece of her fin. Problem solved. But Cary is still not happy about the crayfish being in the goldfish tank.

i must have missed that discussion... would the partition hold up if the crayfish still decides to give a go at the other fish? i mean, would it be possible for the Double to find a way to get through or something..it does have pincers and can crawl along most things..

It's possible that either the crayfish or the goldfish could knock it over.

I suppose we could resort to that if we needed to...

Hi dawn, It seems that you will have to spend some money and get a small crayfish tank. I bet the crayfish can stad the partitioned tank. But it seems Cary can´t. And I ask: would you have a crayfish at home if it wasn´t for Cary? Isn´t he the important one in this issue? If possible, I mean. Goldfish are SO beautiful but they won´t stay happy if they have Cary´s little hends messing up the water to get the crayfish. the more I think of it, the more I feel another tank is needed. Glass jar from the kitchen?

Something a little bigger, I think. The crayfish needs a wee bit of room....

And probably put it in Gary´s room so you don´t get shocked at Gary´s demonstrations of love for the crayfish.

Tell him to take it out then. The fish tank is better than the bath or even the toilet. It's better than the washing machine or the dishwasher. It's better than the kitchen, laundry or bathroom sink. Would it be better if the crayfish belonged to someone else? Maybe the fish tank with the partition is the best place after all..??

We had to take the partition out. The crayfish was using it to help it escape. So far it and the fish are co-existing.

Be careful with the crayfish! I used to have some and those sneaky critters will use any method they can to get out of the tank. We found one halfway down the basement stairs once and another one had somehow gotten into the filter that sat outside the top of the tank. One was just about over the top when we nabbed him and put him back in the water. If you have one of those filters that hang from the top with a tube that goes down near the bottom on the tank, they'll climb up it. Sneaky beasties! They're also very territorial and will fight with each other so, if you get another one, be prepared to see some fights and lost claws. Would another tank be out of the question? I mean to make Cary happy.

There were three crayfish together at the school and that is why ours didn't have claws when Cary brought her home. Yikes, you don't think the crayfish can destroy the partition do you? It's mesh. She's on the side where the filter isn't btw. Maybe she will eventually need her own tank.

Well crayfish eat fish and at the same time they are eaten by fish. In the water the rule is if it fits in your mouth, eat it. Your divider should work until they out grow their space. I know fish grow to fit their space but I think a crayfish may just keep on growing.

Cary may get his wish then. He thinks the crayfish needs her own tank...

seems like a good way to keep them seperated....hopefully they will stay seperated or it might be the end of the goldfish!

I really don't know if she could have eaten the fish or not, but she sure was making its life pretty miserable!

I'm with Cary... It's a goldfish tank...no crayfish allowed. But then I'm not crazy about crayfish. Call me discriminatory...

Oh the crayfish is his baby, he just thinks it should have its own tank.
