This is an adorable photo I've added. Last weekend Savanna was helping my wife wash dishes. In this shot she is rinsing off a fork. She is holdong the sponge and never let go of that thing until they were done doing all the dishes. She had a blast and Savanna even did this without splashing. Well not a lot anyhow. Do you teach your grandchildren how to do normal everyday chores etc when they visit etc?

My oldest grandson likes plants and flowers due to my interest in them.
I gave him some of my lilies a few years ago and they are still growing.
As long as Andy doesn't mow them down that is. HAHAHA!

Hi Grandpa Bob, What a cutie - love the pic. I haven't grandchildren yet but my son who is six does a lot of chores, he helps with all the animals, the garden, the greenhouse and also loads and unloads the dishwasher and is responsible for putting his ownlaundry in his own basket. I think is it a great thing for them to do and it also gives so many rewards. Huggles. Ellie:D

How adorable!!
I like children being taught to do things at a young age, it makes them self confident.
I remember a friend of mine trying to teach her little girl how to wash dishes when she was 4 or so. She complained to the pediatrician that her child spent more time playing with the bubbles than working and the doctor told her she WAS working--that's a child's job, to play and dream. I've never forgotten that. My sons both did the same thing. Took them close to an hour to do dishes but they had so much fun!

My children love helping around the house. If my daughter sees me unloading the dishwasher you better believe she is right next to me helping. There has been a couple of tome that SHE decided that the dishwasher needs to be unloaded and will start unloading it all by herself. She also loves loading the washer and dryer. My daughter is 2.

Yeah, I think kids are really little helpers, and I suppose they enjoy doing them. Some parents do not let the kids to do all these housework, as they think the kids are still young and they might mess it up. I think it's fine to let them mess up, but they get to learn how to do and they will be more responsible in cleaning the house.
My son is just 1 year old, and he's already my little helper. I always ask him to take something for me, or do some simple tasks. He really enjoys doing it, and he is happy that he managed to do certain tasks. It's a good way to build their confidence too.

So true.
Whatever she does with us, she can't go wrong.
We taught her how to WALK the stairs and not slide on her butt.
Now she refuses help and wants to hold the railing herself.
Too cute. Savanna is 21 months old.
She loves doing anything for us as it is a learning time plus fun for her.

That is a sweet picture! I let my son help me with household things. He likes to take the swiffer thing to the floors. If I try to use it he gets mad and wants to do it himself. He said he wanted to vacuum the other day but I told him he isn't big enough to do that yet. He just turned 4 and I think the vacuum cleaner is about as big as him. lol My mom lets him help her do things when he is at her house also.

hi Grandpa Bob I alas have no grandchildren, thats a pity.but this reminds me of growing up on the farm. I was like Savannah and wanted to help when I was her age and my mom let me, so I just naturally learned to do house work and cooking and gardening, I never felt abused as to me it was part of living on a farm. now here I hear so many moms who are totally
exhausted from picking up after their children, and never do they say they have taught their children to help. this amazes me,its not cruel to give little jobs to young kids as they at first do want to help; and if you let them they will then be used to helping around the house.I would not wait on my son as a teen,he knew it was up to him to keep his room clean and he had chores around the house which he did willingly as he had learned as a toddler it was fun to help mommy. Why do these people think they cannot ask a child to help put away their toys and even help with the dishes? is this some modern idea that it is bad to have chores for childrent to do?

I've never had the courage to let the kids try many of the household chores at our house except for helping me with the laundry. They absolutely love to put the detergent in the machine and clean out the detergent cup. However, both of my children have been lucky enough to spend time with their grandparents involving overnights. The last time that Kathryn, my seven year old, spent the night at grandma's house, she learned to vacuum and when she came home, that was all that she wanted to do at the house.
