Well my son has a chalzion on his one eye. The ped referred us to a specialist. So I bout died when my co-pay was $30, I know that's not horrid. But when you are used to paying $7 co-pays & just getting by.....YES it is horrid. So then I check the mail today like any other day and I have a bill for over $100, I'm like WTH is this for? Yeah we got referred to someone they (insurance co) don't pay much on their claims to & we have a deductable. If I would of known this I wouldn't of bothered as his chalazion isn't impeding his vision, only noticable when he's sleeping really and I wasn't told anything different from the specialist than the regular ped *sigh* So why I was referred to a specialist for him is beyond me. So now I'm supposed to pull this remaining balance out of ?????????? So now instead of saving up for back to school fees & supplies I have to come up with this

3 snuggleBunnies then you will understand my shock when I got a bill from the ambulance company for 150 dollars copay, last year it was fifty amd the year before my insurance paid the wholething. I called my insurance as I was shocked that it was 150 dollars instead of fifty dollars. it was an emergency or I would never have taken an ambulance. I was on steroids and they sent my blood pressure and blood su gar up so high I was in danger of hav ing a stroke. so the amublance was not a luxury. So now I just sent them twenty dollars as that is all I can afford at one time, I will pay them twenty dollars a month till its all paid off. I talked to our nurse and she said they will take payments. well they will have to as I never have a hundred and fifty dollars just lying around.I have a chalzion on my eye and I am not going to do anything about it as it does not hurt and does not bother my vision.

It's crazy cause this stuff changes every year. Who can keep up with all of this unless you go to Dr's outside of their lil box. I didn't even think twice about it cause when I went several yrs ago for my sinus' to an outside provider/specialist it was a 20 co pay and nothing more. You should consider yourself lucky that you only got billed 150! My Mom was on disability and they had to transfer her from one hossy to another to get her meds under control for her diabetes. The transfer cost almost 400, no special requirements nothing. I could of drove her the 10-15min for the cost of a gallon of gas KWIM? I wasn't consulted on this either. Then I recall getting a guilt letter sent to me to pay her balance for what?!?!? Shiot a cab would of been cheaper! Though your journey was truly like you said not a luxury unless you had someone who could drive you safely. I know if I felt that way I would not of felt ok to drive either. My Aunt did that for my Uncle, I forgot what it was for but they were at their regular Dr office and they told her to call an ambulance she just drove him to the ER. How long have you had your chalzion? if I may ask

That is the problem with doctors referring you to another doctor or specialist. They do not check to see if they are covered by your insurance before they make the referral. I guess now you know to do your homework on who is covered before taking a referral again. Sorry you have to come up with that much out of pocket.

They deducted an amount but I'm still responsible for a sum more than I was expecting. Usually the co-pay is higher and that's all I have to worry about not a deductable on top of it. But like I said to Hatley, they keep changing the amounts every year and not thinking about it just made the appt. You are right I will be doing my homework next time. But you know I only want to make sure there will be no problems because of this and him being so little with his eye development. It just plain sux!
