Fire Alarm in Office

fire Alarm - Be Proactive

Oh, I am relaxed now but when we heard fire alarm in office today at 11:30 am.=, I was worried. There were people who said that may be admin department is taking a mock and do not need to panic to this situation. I ignored her suggestion and rushed to the stairs at the same time but there were many people in relaxed mode collecting their belonging. When everyone arrived in the ground floor, the responsible officer confirmed that it was a mock. Many people got angry and said that they should be informed before mock. The officer said that this was to test the reaction of the employees on the floor and you guys have failed on that. I have seen this situation earlier as well; people do not react and always think that its mock so be relaxed. I think we should always react whether it’s mock or not. You never know when it’s a real fire alarm. What do you do, relaxed or proceed to the exit at the same time?

Staff must take mock trials seriously. Administration conducts mock trials to test people's reaction as well as to see if the emergency exists are sufficient to evacuate the public in time. Staff must co-operate. It was wrong on the part of some of the personnel to say that administration should have informed them. Mock trials are for their own safety. In fact, administration must take up those who failed to react. I take mock trials seriously.

I would follow the guidelines and just exit out of the building. I get mock fire alarms all the time in my house, and in school, so it's nothing to worry about, although you never know if a serious fire is occurring. If they fail to comply with the rules, then the people should be penalized or something like that.

Hi mlotta: I totally agree with you. People should be penalized if they don't follow the rules because this is very important in order to prevent a real disaster, so people should be more serious about the implications of these behaviours. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day. ALVARO.

Since fire drill are drill, most people will take their time to evacuate and some even have to time to tidy up their desk. They know it's safe to do that. Situation might be different during real fire. No one bother about anything anymore. I usually evacuate when I heard the alarm. I don't run nor take my time either. Usually I fetch my handbag and walk out. I don't need to switch off computer or anything. The faster I respond, the faster the drill will end.

I believe that everyone should react at the same time when the hear alarm, stop working and collecting things. Good to know that you follow this, you never know when we really need it. Thank you for the response.

Hi Ajay Singh Baghel: I think that, in that situation, my first impression: I would be shocked but then of course I'd try to go to the exit, because even if this would be a mock we have to be prepared for this kind of situations. Thanks for sharing with us your experience. Have a nice day. ALVARO.
