Let's give President Obama a little credit. His job is to serve the American

people, and I, for one, feel that is exactly what he is doing.
I see folks saying that he is not doing that job and not moving fast enough on the desaster in the Gulf.
From what I see, he is doing exactly what an executive should be doing...gathering the sharpest, most qualified minds in the world into action to find a lasting solution to the problem. He has visited the area several times, listening to the people, and then he takes all the information back with him and passes it to the experts. He is not an expert on oil wells, nor should we expect him to be. That is why he has a staff and access to the best people in all fields to find the solutions.
People act as though he has nothing else to do...well, let me see. He is dealing with a war in Afganastan, pulling troops out of Iraq, Isreal acting up, Iran making nuclear bombs, North Korea threatening South Korea, the economy, unemployment, and another douzen or so issues.
The majority of the people put him in office because they thought he could do the job. I still think he can.
I support our troops, our country, and our president.

Bravo! I couldn't agree more and I must say, you have no idea how much courage it takes to write what you have written here...lol!
I think some people have very short memories. I mean, we've gone from losing 700,000+ jobs per month to creating jobs. Granted, there haven't been nearly enough jobs created so far but it's a start and we're definitely moving in the right direction. I think the bashing the President has been taking over the oil spill is ridiculous. I don't think anyone else would be doing anything more than he is but his detractors refuse to cut him a break over anything. He was even criticized on Fox News for wearing "fancy pants" while visiting the Gulf - how infantile is THAT???
We're not supposed to make any comparisons to former President Bush because Obama has now been office for a year and a half so they're all "his problems" now, but how can you fairly assess what he's done without mentioning what he walked into?

Thank you anniepa. I wish more people could look through all the media hype and see the real facts. He was not only critized for NOT BEING in the gulf, he was also critized for BEING there. I guess ya can't please everyone.
He took the Russian president out to lunch at a burger joint yesterday. I know it was a "business" lunch, a good-will gesture because the Russian president loves burgers, but I'm sure he will be critized for that, too. He is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. Does and doesn't what, you may ask? Anything. Anything at all.

As a Canadian I think President Obama is doing an excellent job. He is not getting the credit he deserves from the American people. Every day I see posts on myLot to the effect that he wasn't born in the US.Whats wrong with these people, Do they want G W Bush back in? Obama had a hard time to come in after Bush, because he had to clean up George's mess. Most Canadians that I know think Obama is a Great President!

"As a Canadian I think President Obama is doing an excellent job"
Operative words in bold.
"Every day I see posts on myLot to the effect that he wasn't born in the US"
I agree with you there, that much is nonsense and just a distraction from the real issues with him.
"Do they want G W Bush back in"
Apparently enough did to elect someone else just like him.
" Obama had a hard time to come in after Bush, because he had to clean up George's mess"
That is nothing more than a sorry excuse and a cop out. Obama is president now, not Bush, time for him to take responsibility and also remember, he was a senator in our congress before he was president, of which his record for is pretty dismal and he was complicit in a lot of what went on in the last administration.
"Most Canadians that I know think Obama is a Great President!
Again, operative words in bold. I know a lot of Americans who think Steven Harper is a great Prime Minister, I also know a lot of Americans who thought Brian Mulroney was a great prime minister. But I'll bet I could find a lot more Canadians who know better than that.

Here is One Canadian who agrees, that you could find a Lot of Canadians who don't like Harper any better than they liked Mulroney, or Martin (for that matter) But I live in Canada where life is Good! Instead of spouting off about this dismal leadership, I'll wait till the next election!

Well, it seems we find some common ground and I think I made my point. How ever, to just sit and wait for the next election with out talking about what went wrong in the last one doesn't really fix anything. We are a country that was founded on dissent and agonizingly detailed scrutiny of government. It has allowed us to come from literally nothing to a superpower in a very short (historically speaking) amount of time while at the same time, preventing such a powerful entity evolving from a republic to an empire. In recent years, as that debate and dissent has been stifled in ways that aren't always noticeable, we have more and more gone the way of Rome.
But, as you also pointed out...there is always the next election.

You forgot to mention that he has the Wednesday evening concerts at the White House. His many Vacations. His trip to Europe to lobby for Chicago to host the Olympics. Going back to Chicago to keep touch with them every 6 weeks. He was so busy that he could not lay a wreath at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Don't forget his golf outings and the Basketball Games. Don't forget the time he spent on his NCAA Final Picks.
he has given over 400 speeches on Health Care and people still do not know what is covered or what is in the law.
Al least he is not like President Bush who waited 3-4 days to visit the Gulf after Katrina. President Obama waited until it was a full blown crisis and the media forced him to go down there.

Thanks for your response, bobmnu. No, I didn't forget that he has extracurricular activities. I didn't know he was supposed to work 24/7 with no time for himself or his family. He is just a man, with advisors who tell him what to pay attention to. You and I both know the president is basically a figurehead with his only real power the power of persuation. Maybe we should complain more about the congress and senate putting all the red tape in the way of needed services.
By the way, did you notice that before he was president he only had a touch of gray hair? He looks a little different now. Think you could do a better job?

If he wants any credit from me right now he had better be doing something about THIS:
"Mexican soldiers used rifles to chase off U.S. Border Patrol"

I am glad you posted this as I have heard nothing about any of this at all. i didn't even know anyone had been shot. Now if our people did something wrong they should of coarse be punished but then i want all of those who illegally cross the boarder, illegal trespass on lands owned by ranchers along that boarder and those who illegally work here reprimanded and punished as well.

The problem isn't that the President isn't serving it's just that so much of what he is serving I myself and many others do not like. No I do not believe the Spill is his fault, but I do think there are options being ignored do to political red tape and I don't care who is president that crap is his job to stop, not let congress and the senate throw their weight around because some one else's sponsor might get money from it. Obama did make statements as he would do that, I did not vote for him but I know many who did who are very disillusioned.

The President is doing a good job but maybe he has not been forceful enough in some instances he should have come out stronger.
Seven things the president must do now.
1. Declare a National Emergency on the Oil Spill. Seize BP's assetts.
2. Implement Sanctions on Iran. Emphasis on our support for Israel.Encourage Jerusalem as a United nations World City.
3. Send in Muslim American missionaries in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Wage a propaganda war.
4. Pass Comprehensive Immigration reform including a fence built by the private sector and more aggressive business into mexico campaign.
5. Pass Compenhesive Energy reform changing from oil cars to altenative fuel cars in 5 years by 5%. In 20 years by 50%. Build stations with alternative fuel refueling capability.
Build Nucluer Solar, Wind and Coal plants for power needs. 20 years by 50%
6. Pass Comprehensive financiual reform.
&. Bring Money into the US treasury and lower and balance the budget. By adding 5 states to the union charing each 10 billion. The new states would be Pourter Rico, Phillipins, Washington DC, Virgin Island, Marshall Island or Guam. This would add 50 million to the coffers.
Privatize NASA already in motion save the Government money. Government will still privide oversight and security.
Give small business with no or bad credit. Make more money than lose.
