Hello zengy57. Asthma is an inflammatory disease of the airways. The steroids that they've injected to you isn't the same steroids used by bodybuilders. They are what we call CORTICOSTEROIDS. They can be administered either via the aiway through aerosol therapy(nebulizer) or direct bloodstream through Intramuscular Injection. Corticosteroids are "anti-inflammatory agents" given to the patients having asthma attack to constrict the airways, in that case, allowing the patient to breathe normally again. Side effects such as nausea, dizziness, vomitting, headache, shaking, nervousness, and others are expected after administration. But no need to worry, everything will be back to normal after a while.

Anyway, XANTHINES can be helpful. Like aminophylline and theophylline. They are treatment for asthma too. Coffee can be of great help too due to its theophylline content. But it's best to ask you family doctor first if you're allowed to take Xanthines.

Are Steroids good for your health? We are talking about prednisolene steroids which are totally different from the steroids sportsmen take. These steroids are not very good for are health if we are taking them on a regular basis but are definately needed if you have an asthma attack and difficulty breathing. Doctors should only give them to you if they are needed. In my case I have Emphysema and Asthma. The Asthma only flares up now and them but the Emphysema is there all the time which means I am constantly breathless. This doesn't mean I need to take the steroids. I have an emergency pack of Prednisolene Steroids at home at all times which I only take when I get much worse than normal. If you decide not to take these steroids when you are given them by a doctor you could be risking your life. The steroids stop you airways from swelling which makes it easier to breath. If you don't take them then your airways could swell and you could have a bad attack which has too far gone to help quickly hence risking your life. Theses steroids are only bad for you if your taking them all the time. They can cause you to get Osteo.... when your bones become very weakm but it is rare. So if you have been prescribed steroids for your lung condition make sure you take them.

I actually just got off steriods on tuesday. I was on for 6 days. It is used for so many types of uses for medications. I was them because i had a sinus infection sine novemeber so they started me on those and in 6 days i was cure. The side effects are to bad. If you have a heat condition like myself you will see yourself getting shackey at times and dropping things. I was not the best when iw as on them as i couldn't even iron but i did what i could. I also found myself eating more than usual, but i didn't gain any weight so that is a good thing.

It depends on the one taking it. One needs steroids to cure a particular ailment. Like some inhalers for asthma attack which contain steroids, it is needed to cure asthma. But yes, one effect of it is that you'll gain weight cause you'll end up eating always. So it's better to stay healthy always and avoid illness.

The way of controlling asthma unfortunately is steroids, but this does mean that you CAN put on weight. What you need to do is find a good balance between Your asthma/steroid use-age, and exercise.
