the headline says Arizona Immigration Law May Be Driving Hispanics Out of State. Then goes on to say that almost 100 students from 1 school have left, families saying "They're concerned at what the law will do ... if they have anyone in their family that's illegal," did you see the operative word in there? this means the law is working before it has even started. If numbers in the public schools are going down due to the law, isnt that a good thing? Here is the story http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/06/11/discontent-arizona-immigration-law-driving-hispanics-state/

I disagree with people coming here ilegal. But, that would mean that I would disagree with more then the majority being here! As our ancestors came here with out any papers! Lets not forget prior to us this was native land! Native americans, you know the one that don't pay taxes, sort of the way of us saying sorry for murdering your love ones!yeah them... IT was their land! we came here murder them and took their land for free! rape their wifes! took some of them as slaves! learned from them! how to live in the land and took over... It is outrages that illegals paying taxes by the way! come here and most of them do the right thing and they get critize! Now look! I'm all up for the legal way to come here.. Afte all, I want to know whos who at the end of the day! BUT........... AZ has taken the wrong approach and I can't applaud that furthermore approved of that! There are other ways to handle the situation if the feds wont!! LIKE GOING TO CONGRESS would be one! But the easiest way out and hurting those that are defenseless is always a lot easier.. and lets face it guys who don't like the easy way out... I applaud them for trying but this wont stop illegals from coming. I SAY immigration reform and tougher laws!! The feds start working or congress step in! now this is change!!!! NOT, LATINOS let me see your paper if you ran a red light to see if your here illegal or not... What in the world would this resolve besides a real murder getting away due to our law enforcement concentrating on a Latino that probrably came from work! PLEASE........ GET REAL GUYS!

How do you pay taxes if you're working for cash because you don't have the paperwork that allows you to work legally in this country?

I don't know that these are the people that we want leaving though, if they are worried about the law that means that they are probably otherwise law abiding citizens. This is a effect of the fear mongering the Left has been doing about this law. But...if the law works, the law works.

Ya, but if Grandma is illegal...what do we care? I understand where you're coming from though, and I am no softy on immigration policy. But I'm more worried about those who are leaching off of society and not paying income taxes while taking advantage of our entitlements. Who knows whether these people are the good ones or the bad ones. It's a chance you have to take in order to do what's right for American citizens though.

I think that it's great that the law is working, however I live in CA, and since the elected officials here, in part think we should boycott Arizona I don't think that we will be passing this law anytime soon. Which means we will have a whole lot of illegals coming here. I think I will give further thought to moving to Montana.

laglen if they would just leave my state California maybe our jobless people would finally get some jobs. we feed them clothe them get them medical care and school money and really they are all illegals, they are criminals. so go back to Mexico then if you want to reallybe an American aapply for citizenship and come here legally. then I will welcome them with open arms. now we have one city so set on by illegal teen gangs that few people want to got to Santa anna anymore as its just not safe to walk on the streets because of the drive by shooting by rival gangs of illegal teen hoods. s end them home and let them kill each other there not on our city streets.

I agree, I really do not like the idea of illegals ANYWHERE in our country, but cities that insist on being sanctuary, fine, they can pay for them!

Yup - race right out and get those jobs cleaning toilets, planting trees on hillsides in the cold rain, blinding heat, mowing lawns, and taking care of others little children. There are not very many undocumented with six figure salaries. You wouldn't qualify for those jobs either. By the way, the majority of 'teen gangs' are not illegal. They are born and raised here. They are products of the American way.

Laglen, Yea!!! Another great discussion. It's great that ILLEGALS are leaving. They're ILLEGAL. It's great. I must tell you ,though, several years ago, I was working an election held in a local high school as polling place. Believe it or not, one proposition was about keeping the school rolls inflated with illegal aliens and was sponsored in part by the teacher's union. One of the school principals, came right into the polling place and started ELECTIONEERING, right in our faces, telling people to vote their way. It's disgraceful what is happening in our country.

That is disgraceful and that was a big issue in our last Presidential election.

Let me get one thing straight here, Note the word HispanicI bet 10 to 1 that you don't realize that does not mean Mexican. There are over 20 countries where people are called Hispanic. They are not all from the same country. Yet for some strange reason just because someone is from Hispanic decent we are assuming they are Mexicans. On the other hand we have the simple fact that Public schools always ask for a birth certificate and it has to be a real one. they also ask for SS numbers, so believe me anyone going there would have been legal. I believe this is a scare tactic just so they can scare the crap out of any families that are Hispanic. Legal or not. Anyone illegal also could even mean a cousin, an aunt in another state ect. they are just trying to scare these poor people into leaving.

I cant speak for Arizona, but kids can still attend school in Colorado whether legal or not I agree with your point regarding hispanic descent. In my area, it is Mexicans

In Ca to register your child for school you don't have to show a SS card for the child you do have to show a birth certificate and it doesn't matter where it's from, and up-to-date shot records, also a utilty bill has to be shown for proof of address, the school is more conderned that you aren't coming from a neighboring school district versus citizenship, go figure. As fo illegals in my state they are also mostly mexican, but we also have large asian and russian communities, I have no idea what the percentages of them that are illegal as we really only hear about the ones from Mexico.

Boy I wish they'd do that here. In NY illegals can get a NY state ID without any documentation.. they don't have to be legal to get an ID, which will help them get jobs, welfare.. all sorts of other stuff. How insane is that? When I was 16 and went down to the DMV to get my driver's permit I needed 6 different proofs of identity. I needed my school ID, my social security card, birth certificate, report cards, immunization records, and a current itemized doctor's bill... but now I could go down there with nothing and get an ID... crazy!!

I'm glad to see that progress is being made already. I think this law is a good idea and hope that other states follow suit so that living illegally in the U.S. looks less attractive to those who sneak across the boarders.

On the surface, it sounds like the law is working. But the thing is, these illegals will only go to another state that doesn't have the law. That isn't helping the illegal problems at all.

your right. But it does solve Arizona's problem and then maybe the other states will follow suit.

Wow they go to school late in the year. We got out a three weeks ago. But I am sure we probly go back before they do in the fall too. Anyway...I say the law is working. It is running the illegals out. They are scared of getting caught so they are running for it. But they are not going back to Mexico...they will just go to another state. So watch out surrounding states...they will flood into you guys next. That is what is going to happen...the states with laws like AZ's won't have a big illegal problem because they will move to the states that don't have those laws. Which will flood those states..I am glad my state is looking to pass some of the same laws AZ just passed real soon. So they shouldn't be flooding to our state. I am infact looking forward to when we do pass those increased laws so that the ones we have leave.

You are right, they will flee to other states, I would love for Colorado to adopt a similar law. But then we have Hickenlooper in Denver sending invitations to illegals!

This just makes me think of the larger picture and why you actually have so many willing to call it racist and Nazi-like without even reading it or admitting that it's actually a very tamed down version of the Federal law. I mean, where else can you really stand if you stand against it? You can't say, "Well, it's going to make being here illegal a crime!" Umm, duh! And you can't say, "Some that are here illegally with their families might feel pressure to leave or might be broken up!" Umm, what part about illegal didn't you get? So it has to become, "Racist! Hitler! Usurper! Bigot! Mexican hater! KKK!" If folks are leaving because they fear the law, then that means they're illegals. No one legal is going to flee from fear. If anything, they'd wait around to see if they got harassed and then drop the lawsuit on someone's head! So it seems to be working if people are going to run from it. Good. There should be a deterrent in place so people won't commit a crime, ffs.
