Are you mylot going to watch the World Cup?

Are you going to watch the World Cup and has your country gone World cup crazy? I am in England and wse play America tonight. The whole country has gone World Cup mad but it is nice as it does seem to bring people together. Cars and houses have flags. One bad thing though is a person near us had one on a bike and got stopped by the police and is going to be charged with being a racist. Can you believe that for flying our own countries flag? Anyone good luck to everyone, especially England!

Hi MAllen, mylotter Janey had a discussion earlier about flags being banned in England. Now I know that that is to prevent racial violence. Soccer could really push the adrenalin way too high. But at least England had precaution over any untoward situation. That is a little bit frustrating for the citizens but wella a commendable foresight on the authorities.

It still comes to something when you cannot show support for your own team in your own country though

True. But I suppose your team knows that already in their hearts. I will watch the games. As I am just a viewer, I have to go with that old adage May the best team wins!

Hi Mallen: Honestly I don't think so. I'm not a big fan of soccer so personally I'll watch the news and everything but only that. Of course, I'd like that my country wins the World Cup in SouthAfrica but I prefer to do other things at this time of the year, like, for example being here on Mylot. I'm sorry, but watching football is not my passion. Thanks for staring this discussion. Have a nice day. By the way, I don't understand what's the relation between your flag and being a racist. That's the weirdest thing I've heard on this day. ALVARO.

To most there is no relation between our flag and being a racist. Just flying it in the eyes of some police stations is enough to say racist because you are flying the English one. Here there is a lot you can and cannot do to upset the minority religion and race. Yet the minority are not the ones complaining. It is what we call politically correctness!

Yes i am going to watch the world cup. I have watched the first two matches and South Korea vs Greece is on at the moment. I can't wait until tonight when England play and hopefully start their world cup campaign off with a win.

A draw is better than loosing though!

I think the world cup is quite hyped up, I won't be watching if i can help it, I heard that a few pubs in my town won't let people in if they have an england shirt on as it is racist ???? I couldn't believe that as we are in England. Political correctness has gone too far. There are so many things we can and cannot say or do nowadays but if we get called Brits do we say it's racist ? no we don't but maybe we should
12 Jun 10
I agree with you there. I think after the world cup everyone should stop going to the pubs that banned you wearing an England shirt. I like the "if I can help it" it is going to be hard to escape it for the next couple of weeks. Have you heard that some people are going to watch it on lap tops but if they plug them in and the firm hasnt got a tv licence they could be fined £1000 for having no tv licence!

Oh, yes! I will definately be watching as many matches as I can. I live in a country that is not in the World Cup, so people aren't too excited here yet, but a lot of people do watch the games.
