Today I discovered just how much of a slob my oldest son is. We have what we call the guest house, our oldest son has been living in it for the past 2 years. After he graduated from high school, he decided that he was going to move out of our home and move into a place with a ton of his friends. Which is fine, we understand that he wants to be independent and stuff. Since he moved out, we have asked him repeatedly to come retrieve the remaining bit of stuff that he has stored at our home. Well, he hasn't, so my husband and I decided to work on getting the house cleaned up and ready for a tenant to move into. We were shocked when we opened the door, there was trash and other nasty stuff all over the place. Currently, we have been working on the problem for well over 2 1/2 hours. When this kids was little, he couldn't stand to even get dirt on his hands, he had to wash it off right away. Amazing how different he is today. Do you have a slob in your family?

Your son sounds like one of my brothers. i have a brother three years younger than i am. My brother used to live at home with my mother because he couldn't afford a place of his own. He needed a maid for sure.he didn't care about picking up after himself. he had my mother to do it.

I have this strange feeling that what may end up happening is his room mates are going to get sick of him and throw him out. When that happens I know he is going to come running home and wanting to move back in. I wonder if I should let him, if that happens.

I raised two girls who ended up being slobs, I'm afraid to say. Maybe its my fault because I'm a bit OCD when it comes to keeping things clean and in order at all times. So I guess they became rebellious and decided to go against my teachings. My oldest daughter always liked keeping things clean when she was very young. However, now in adulthood not so much. I don't like going to her apartment because then I just want to go crazy cleaning and she tells me to stop. I feel for you and what you are going through. It reminds me of the Hoarders show on TV where people just live in piles of clothes, garbage and stuff and can't even get through a room without climbing over stuff. I believe the younger generation for the most part are a bunch of slobs today. Why I really don't know. I'm just happy I am the way I am and not a slob. Good luck in the clean-up.

When my kids were younger I was a bit on the OCD side. However, I have backed off to some degree, oh sure there aren't a ton of things laying around and the floor needs a good vacuuming, but, it is nothing like what my son has done. We still have a lot of work to do on his room. It is very amazing. I'm happy that I'm not a slob either, however, I feel like I could use a little work once again, just feel I don't have the time working full time and such.

That's not cool. If you are living with someone because they are allowing you to, you should try to be tidy and respectful.

That's funny!Actually, my son was just the opposite. When he lived at home I had one rule.. don't let your cr*p past your door.. the rest of us don't want to smell it!We could kick it back into his room. But when he moved out he became a neat freak!A very serious neat freak!I was like, you are not the one who lived in my house all those years!

I have to agree the smell that was in the room was horrible, it actually made me sick a few days ago when I went in there. At one point, he was neat and kept things some what organized. It was almost as if overnight that he decided he wanted to be a slob.

Thats disgusting! I think the best solution would be black bin bags and rubber gloves. Just bin the lot of it - that will teach him!

It is disgusting. It has been tons of bleach and such to get it taken care of. We have already taken 3 large trash bags out of there completely full of trash. My husband was working on the 4th.
