After 2 days into the FIFA World Cup Tournament in South Africa, I have to admit that the match between South Korea and Greece by far has to be the best.
The South Koreans really brought the game to the Greeks and the Greeks just look like they had not recovered from their financial tsunami at home where they just look so jaded.
Before the match, I felt that this match would be fought keenly and would be worth watching. However, right from the kickoff the Greeks seems to have fallen deaf to their Coach Otto Rehhagel's warnings and instructions. They must have thought that they were playing with a bunch from some boys' band.
Well, looks can be deceiving and after 7 minutes the South Koreans went ahead with a magnificent set piece play when Lee Jung-Soo met Celtic midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng's swinging free-kick unopposed and volleyed it gleefully into the back of the net.
The Greeks were totally outclassed and outran by their Asian opponent and had the referee to thank for, Greece's woes might have increased further with Bolton's Lee Chung-Yong astonished not to be awarded a 15th-minute penalty for a clumsy challenge from behind by full back Vasilis Torosidis. And their defender Avraam Papadopoulos, had he not got in a last-ditch challenge on striker Park Chu-Young on the 28th minute to allow keeper Alexandros Tzorvas to make a vital block. The Greeks would have been down by 3 goals.
When second half kicked off, I thought Greece would make a comeback after some relief in their changing rooms. But, it was short lived, for only 2 minutes where
after Torosidis's firing wide from a corner - it was simply downhill for Greece as they began reeling again.
Just after 7 minutes again, this time from the restart Manchester United's Park Ji-Sung made the most of Loukas Vyntra's woeful control for the whole day in the middle of the park to race in on goal, leaving the central defender and partner Papadopoulos for dead before sliding a shot across Tzorvas and into the bottom corner.
The South Koreans really looked the better and hungrier team, even after leading 2 goals, they did not relent or showed signs of defending their lead - bring the game to the Greeks.
I have to say that South Korea is indeed the team to watch and are serious contenders for the final 8. Their spirit and astounding dedicated play is a delight to watch indeed.
I hope that they could make it to the last 8 and with a stroke of lady's luck last 4. South Korea is indeed the team to watch.
Any takers?

arnooba,
If you had followed team South Korea for the past World Cup Tournaments, you have to have noticed that they have never ceased to improve with their performance and the number of their players who are already playing in Europe's professional league teams is already a testimony of their performance.
I am just happy to see them for what they are today, for they have gone through a lot to arrive at this level. They are indeed Asia's pride.
