My oldest daughter has Lupus Arthritus. She was 17 when diagnosed with it. She is over 30 now. She has a lot of problems with pain. I don't know where she is at with the meds. I know the side effect of them is worse then having the arthritus. I have a little arthritus and I am not taking anything. I do have some "achie" days, and take tylenol. I have used menthol camphor before on my 'aches' and it has really helped. It is just a menthol rub, but doesn't burn like the ben gay's and other kinds. I am sorry this isn't much help. I don't know about the type your son has but I know with my daughter, rainy days or days before the rain comes are her worst.

Happy sunday, Lou Ann, thanks for your response. I'm sorry ur daughter has that. I have heard of lupus but not the arthritus type. I know about that pain from arthritus, i have it real bad. I have been on pain meds for a long time. I'm now wearing pain patches because my dr. wanted me to get off the pills. i USE A RUB CALLED BIO-FREEZE & IT REALLY HELPS. i BUY IT AT A REHAB PLACE. iT'S SORT OF EXPENSIVE BUT IT WORKS REALLY WELL & DOESN'T SMELL BAD lIKE SO MANY OF THEM DO. I had been trying to get my son to use it before he found this out because he was always complaining w/his back hurting but he os soooo hardheaded. Have no idea where he got it, lol. U are right rainy days does make it worse.

Hi Jo, really sorry to hear of your son's diagnosis. I answered you before but it wouldn't post for me. Sorry. It has been a busy day here. Came home from church and went to a graduation party at a town north of us then came home and went to our granddaughters birthday party at the town south of us. Tomorrow I have to go in first thing in the morning for a fasting blood test for my cholestrol....I was doing good with everything but this last week I got side tracked and didn't do to well, these partys today didn't help, not that I think one day would make any difference.

Hi Antiquelady, I experienced that rheumatoid arthritis on my right knee two weeks ago and after a week my left knee was also in pain. What I did is to drink plenty of water, right from the bed when I wake up in the morning my first intake is water. I sacrificed not to eat pork, I changed my diet to fish, vegetable and fruits and after a week of strictly having this diet, thanks God, I'm no longer in pain. And I did not take any medicine at all.

Sorry! It is a mistake, you can eat fish, but you'd better not eat sea food.

I don't have Sero Rheumatoid Arthritus, but I do have fibromyalgia. I am 33 going on 34 years old. The earliest I remember suffering with it was at the age of 5. I have basically learned to live with the pain. I have noticed as I get older the pains get stronger. I can nor longer take basic pain medicines any more because it upsets my stomach. The think with any arthritus it's dealing with the pain. Also finding which foods triggers it as well. Where is your son's arthritus located? Mine is mainly in my arms and legs. I get lucky when it's just one of my arms. I have had all four hurting at once, now that isn't fun. Your son can try taking the otc pills called alleve. It works fast, just wish it didn't cost a lot. Sorry that your son was diagnosed with this. I wouldn't wish arthritus on my worst enemy if I had one.

My cousin has rheumatoid arthritis. But I don't really have anything good to tell you. The best thing to do is follow a healthy diet, keep in close contact with the doctor, and keep trying to fight it. Explore all avenues if financially possible.

while i have rhenatoid arthritis, i have never heard of sero-negative ra, so of course i looked it up! i have to wonder what the difference is. my advice to you (and myself) is to do all the research that you can. get a hold of the arthritis society (thats what it is called here in canada) and see what information they can offer. information is power!

I have rheumatoid arthritis. I was diagnosed on my 40th birthday. It is difficult, but not awful. I have found that a good rheumatologist really helps. It depends on your own body. I take methotrexate, something with sulfs..., over the counter pain meds. If you keep the swelling down, there is little damage.
