It's Hard to "save money" now than ever..

Hello Lotters, the Title is very clear and very related to me because even if i had a job then i wasn't able to save much and then contributed it to my parents and brothers. Now recently i have been doing my best into saving money for the future. but it seems when ever there's a situation i couldn't control, i would have no choice but to use it. like for example, I want to save my pay outs for the entire year but i can't help but use it SKype because of my mom always wanted to call dad when ever there's emergency. Or i need to save what i have earned in the ice business but i couldn't help spend it when my mom has no money for the basic commodities that we need. It's hard to save now, even for those people working, salary is the same but expenses are a lot higher now. Any advice we can give to each other is important to say it now. Have a great saving day

LetranKnight25, IMO, I feel you should start budgeting and keep a close tab on your expenses then determine a certain achievable amount to save. This amount will not be touched and no matter if you had overspent or need - it must not be touched. Anything else, will mean cutting down on other expenses to make up for your last minute obligations. You may check with your bank if they have a term deposit plan where they can let you deposit a fixed monthly amount for a term of 2 to 3 years. You can only withdraw the money upon the agreed maturity period. In this sense, you will then be forced to save and discouraged to spend. If you are tight then you may want to consider buying a term insurance like an endowment plan for yourself where there will be both savings and life coverage for you, which at the end of the term you will have a lump sum of money saved. Always remember that you will need to start with yourself before you can achieve curb your spending habits.

"....i could start by being strict with what i need to save." I think it should be with what you spend where you need to cut down on your expenses.

hello skysuccess, I do have a debit card but it's for putting up all of my earnings online most specially mylot. we did try insurance but we went mad after the staff asked for our credit card, which was infuriating, which really made me upset the most. unfortunately, i don't have of what you are proposing. probably when i already have a job but not now i guess. i could start by being strict with what i need to save.

Hello LetranKnight25! Yes its true, its really harder to save nowadays because of different factors around. We do have a lot of "temptations" so to speak, everywhere else, there's so many things that you could spend your money to, even if its not needed, unlike before that we have lesser things to catch our attention so we have more chance to save our money instead. The technology now was so advanced and gadgets abound the market so people from all walks of life tends to ride the bandwagon and buy unnecessary items just to be "in". Some of them was ipod, too expensive cellphones etc. Thankfully, i have a fantastic ability to control myself from buying unnecessary things, i always think before i buy something if its just a want or its needed really. Whatever happens, i save 10-20 percent of what we earned, me and my hubby and from there, we were able to construct our new house little by little, my plan after that is to invest it into mutual funds so i could make the money multiply no matter how slow it is, the important thing is that we have something to turn to in case emergency arise. Good luck!

Hello jinjer, at least you can save, make sure you can strict and consistent with it because it might help you some day and not today. you're lucky, you were able to have a house, i wanted a house of my own, but it's too expensive and i don't have a job so i had to save it for renovation for commercial space here in the family house.don't be obsessed with technology, am sure the latest tech now will be cheaper later on

saving money is pretty tough especially when you are only getting a little bit. hubby was out of work for 8 months and we used up all of our savings (i only work part time due to health issues). now that he has a job, we will be paying off the bills we have been racking up. not only that, our house is in disrepair too. my advice, dont shop, (unless you absolutely have to).

Hello Cher, Thanks for the advice, if there's going to be shopping, it's only to refill stocks of food in the Refrigerator.besides, i have watch the movie "shopaholic" and it was really an eye opener when it comes to karma in spending it too much. at least you have a house unlike those who have been paying in the apartments. my advice too, no credit cards, it's a debt trap

I find that it is also hard to save money as my salary is quite low but sometimes its high depending on how many sales I make that particular month. If I need to buy something, I will think first and I really don't have any savings for emergency right now.

Hello wong, you must be a sales man or something. well, it's hard to sell now compare to the last time because there are a lot of people now trying to save money and running or avoiding the sales man when ever that is possible. but do your best am sure there are some people who wants you're product.

Hi LK, If we will continue to justify our needs and expenses then nothing will happen as it relates to saving money. based on my experience...upon receiving my salary--i take some for savings (piggy bank...coins or bills it does not matter as long as i take some for my savings). then whatever is left will be budgeted for the week or 15 days expenses before the next salary comes. discipline yourself if you really want to save. you have lots of sources. you can spend all your online earnings but never sacrifice your ice business. that's where you can save. At time when i don't take the cab, and i took the bus whatever is left for my transportation expenses i save it. like instead of spending P100 for a cab, i did commute-- i spend only P25.00. when i reach home i will automatically save the remaining P75.00 in my piggy bank as it is already budgetted for my transpo. if i did not take my snacks because my offficemate treat us for her birthday i save the money. anything single centavo and peso can be a savings. we just need to be creative and discipline to keep it. good luck i hope this can help as it worked for me!

Hello Ms.francisco, I didn't have a Piggy bank but i do remember having a Doggie bank given to me by a friend long ago. but unfortunately it has an opener there that i could take out some coins, then i don't remember how but it fell and broke in one accidental occasion. that reminds me, maybe i should start having my own big piggie bank just to sure.for now i still have 10$ in my Eon account, i guess i will start from there.

yes, it is really hard to save money these days. what i do, is i try to put money in different wallets that i don't really use. since i have three wallets, i put money to them and keep it. i don't use the money there except for the wallet that i really use. i also keep some money in jars in my room. try to have some income at home. in my case, i accept made to order cakes and i also make invitations. though, they not really good for me cause they are seasonal.

I agree that saving money is harder nowadays, especially if you are helping out family or friends who need extra money to be able to buy their basic commodities or pay important bills. I know that from my own experience. Also, I have been unemployed for a while. Or better said, I had a contract for zero hours as they call it here in Holland. I'm not sure if this is something that bussinesses use around the globe, but basicly it means they call you when they need you and you can either accept or decline. On the other hand, they have no obligation to supply work for you. So one month you might have a 40 hour workweek, the other month nothing. You do have a job contract, but it can seem if you were unemployed. Luckily I was asked to start working 16 hours a week which is about two third of the hours I used to work and a lot more solid than 0 hours.

hello cyberfluf, well, at least you have a job and the one thing you need to be prepared to is being called by your clients any time that they need you, including peculiar hours.then, the best idea there is to save as many as you can if it's just contractual. if you're unemployed now, that makes two of us

agree. very true. it is really hard to save. but lucky you that you still have something to get when you need. so your saving still have purpose but not that one that you are aiming for. i have a son and a wife plus bills to pay like rent of apartment, electricity, water and a lot more har har har. plus my mother is half body paralyze that i need to support also. the scary part is that in emergency i really dont have any savings.

Hello seven, It's really true that of all the expenses, water and Electric Bill are important necessity but water is over all important to our daily needs.wow, i can't imagine now that you are actually going to spend your child on other expenses in school besides the tuition fee youjust paid for them. of course, you can't thrift on your mother's medication. i think you should try to save and be strict and specify the amount you need to save, secret and untouchable, which takes discipline.

hello crazy daisy, That's one good advice that you got there, for me i was able to save four dollars on my last pay out because i had to use it for skype funds. but even if i have fifty dollars, i won't use my funds on X-mas, as i am focusing on saving for life, probably use it for emergencies and stuff. fifty dollars is sure a lot of money.thanks a lot.

Hello hotsummer, What do you use to call abroad, is it still land line and then use a card to call them or program in the PC similar to skype or sykpe itself? i use that program and i always refill it to 10$ (ten dollars) in every two month when ever my mom would call them when they need to talked. it's nice because it's a lot cheaper still comparing others, unless you got something better.

I understand exactly what you are saying. We cannot save anything. It seems that whenever we get ahead a little something will happen to take us back to square one! I used to save my online earnings for myself but lately we’ve needed every cent for bills and expenses. I am not sure I can give any advice. I’ve heard it said that you should pay yourself first when you get paid but that is easier said than done these days!

Hello paula, and that's why strict discipline comes into the picture. i wish i could have been more like my dad when he was still here around home, he's in the US now. i try my best to start over even at my later age. we really have to save now matter what but not to extend being too conscious with money.

I have started saving some money every week from my check. I have a checking account so what I do is I write it in $50 less then what I really put in there, this way at the end of the year I will have a lot of cash put away. I plan on taking the family on a nice long vacation this year to Miami, but one never knows if it will happen or not. It will depend all on my work. Which reminds me I need to get back to work. TTYL.

Hi! There would always be unexpected expenses. The trick is to save a percentage of your money monthly and forget about it. You can go to your bank and inquire, they can deduct a certain amount you choose and put it in another one of your account. Also, you can try a passbook, that way it will take time to withdraw money compared to the usual atm card. If you have saved atleast 10k you can then put in in a time deposit or mutual fund that way, you can't touch the money unless you want extra charge.

Hello Marichris, I have tried passbook but after loosing my past job, the only thing i could do was to withdraw and withdraw until i lost my account because i couldn't retain the minimum amount because i can't deposit no more, for now i only have is the debit account of EON.

Hello cp, so the best way for you to prevent it is to stay in shape, eat the right food, sleep well, and don't over do your work. health is important, if the body can't take it anymore, don't push it.

You are not alone in that situation, I can't save too. Whenever there is money there is always something that will cause you to spend that money. Money is really for spending not for saving. If you really want to save, you have to earn triple that you expected every month. YOu can calculate the spending amount every month and you can less that to your earning every month, if there is nothing left, you have to earn triple that you earn a month so that the double amount of earnings will be save and will increase every month. That is what I do. But in order to triple the earnings online I have to work hard online, like to work 24 hours. If you want find another offline job to add to your earnings...

Hi, it's very hard for us to save money right now. My husband had a pay decrease, his hours also got cut. I had a part time job that made very little and I don't even have that any longer. I know the money experts always say that you should pay yourself first on payday - to always put a set amount directly into a savings account. That's really hard to do when you don't even have enough money to cover all of the bills. Just gotta love that "pay yourself" advice. Personally I think it'd be fun to see how these experts like living for 2 or 3 months with no money like the rest of us have to do.

Hello rowantree, I have little money from mylot, other online sites and small business but still consider it as "no money" guy category because i really earn a little. well, you can try define a certain small amount and make it untouchable as you can consider it part of the savings and will only use it only when there is emergency

Hi Letran tell me about it, I had one hundred twenty five dollars left after the rent and board were taken out, then my son was short fifty dollars to pay the storage bill for our stuff until he gets a job and we can move into an apartment. then I had to pay the phone, and my med copay bills, then the cable bill and I went shopping before all this and spent more than I should now I have just a little cash left and a little left in the bank and its only the middle of the month. Why is it when you think you can do this or that, an emergency that costs money always comes up a nd oh yes I had a hundred fifty dollar co pay on an ambulance trip that I have to make payments on. twenty dollars a month til paid off.so I am already almost broke. No way I could send anyone onehundred fifty dollars in one lump sum. nSo now I am telling myself do not buy anything you do not need come july 1st, not want but need, theres a big difference there and I can budget if I do not give in to want.

Hello Hatley, Wow, that's a lot of money to spent, and even if you have only a few hundred dollars you still had to spent it some where else. it's hard to sacrifice a lot just for saving money. a lot of people are really saving money and not really enjoying life of buying stuff but of course, we have to be realistic in this situation.

we have actually the same problem. it is so hard to save money now a days especially that the cost of our basic commodities are getting higher but our salaries are still the same. what i do is i deposit my extra money to our cooperative every salary day. i can only withdraw it at the end of the year plus the interest. every xmas me and my co-nurses are very happy knowing that we have saved a lot of money to buy gifts for ourselves and for our love ones.

hello jesgil, Wow! so, that can be good, maybe i should consider joining a cooperative and put my money there. well, as for me, i think i may not be able to spend it on one year. that's good for you and for your co-nurses. i commend you for helping the patients. have a great day.
