Most of the talk over the past 50 years has been over the IQ (Intelligence Quotient) of a person. But over the past 10 years more and more experts feel that Emotional Quotient (EQ) is more important for a person's success than Intelligence Quotient (IQ). Have you heard of Emotional Quotient? Cheers! Ram

Yup. I have read that EQ is better than IQ! EQ is used on how people cope with hardship and how emotionally stable they are.

Check out some of these articles: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/321440/eq_vs_iq_which_is_more_important_in.html http://www.alduncan.net/eq-or-iq.html http://www.selfgrowth.com/articles/Dunn157.html The view seems to be that IQ is important to get into an organization while EQ is important to grow within the organization. Yes, I heard of it. Still, many companies in my country based their recruitment on IQ which I think not wise. I encountered several people who have high IQ but they could not cope well in a real working environment and also in life in general. And I read that many of the intelligent people have fragile emotional states, which is why they are easily duped and manipulated. While IQ is important to know the intelligent level of a person, I think we should also consider EQ to know the emotion level of a person.

Yes, the problem is they hire based on IQ and then try to train them on EQ, while the other way around would be much easier!! Cheers! Ram

Is there any EQ test? It should be interesting to know our own level of emotion.

Actually there are many. If you in fact take any of the books on EQ they will have at least one test which will help you evaluate your emotions. Cheers! Ram

I haven't heard of this before. I can't help myself though. It had to be someone in some back office that couldn't figure out the system so they found a way around the intelligence issue... No wait.. that would mean that they had a pretty high IQ to figure it out to begin with... so never mind!

That is correct. Also they say that you can continuously improve your EQ, but IQ is usually static after a particular age. Cheers! Ram

That's a good one :) But seriously I think EQ has more value in terms of today's world where we are more connected than ever compared with IQ. As some of the links above point out, IQ is essential to get into an organization, while EQ is essential to continue to stay and grow there. Cheers! Ram

I think they are both huge factors! But even if you have the intelligence to do a job, if your emotions are out of whack you'll not be as successful as you could have been.

I actually know some people who has a great IQ but they are not really successful in life for some reason. For me IQ can have so many knowledge as they can but if they are irresponsible in life I don't think it will still lead to success. I totally agree that EQ is more important for a fact that they have the ability to handle pressure and resolve conflicts, being responsible in task, people person example in sales on how you sell your propose product, trust and humility must be also included. I remember before that one of my officemate in some animation studios, I really used to adore and amazed on how she excels in drawing, I mean she really has this potential like being a fast learner. She is talented and has potential to draw like she can draw 10 or more papers in 1 day without revisions. I could actually admit that I could envy someone like her for being a fast learner. But guess what? she is a cleptomaniac, who steals small things and some of her officemate are complaining about it. I was shocked! and good thing I haven't experienced that to her.

Of course, being cleptomaniac does not have anything to do with either IQ or EQ, but still you are right that EQ is essential for success in life. Cheers! Ram

I have heard of this from people from ISKCON-Bangalore. They actually conducted a training session on how to improve it.

Yes, i have heard about this since i was studying. i guess this EQ thing measures the emotional capacity, or emotional health of a person i have not much information on this but i do think this can be very subjective. im sure though that experts have their well tested and scientifically proven tests so i would not say they are incapable to measuring EQ. I just find it a bit odd seeing in some kid's milk that drinking the milk could improve a child's EQ - i think its just not possibly related to what we drink, right? at least not directly involved in it as many milk product companies would claim.

Hi, I heard a lot about EQ, but I am still confused about it. I don't know the meaning of it. I totally understand that there is a need to channelize our emotions in the desired path. You may call that motivation too. Thanks God bless you

Yes I agree with you EQ is also as important as IQ. Science helps us to analyze everything very closely these days, and without science all this also would have not taken place.

Yes, but science has never really understood the power of emotions. Science is all about facts, but emotions usually defy the facts!! Cheers! Ram

I heard about EQ. I disagree when you said that EQ is more important than IQ when we talk about the success of the person. EQ and IQ should come together and they have the same value.

It is not I who say that, but the experts. Their point is that while IQ determines the intelligence of a person to act, EQ determines the ability of a person to get along with people. In today's connected world they feel that it is more important to connect with people rather than stand alone as an super intelligent being!! Cheers! Ram

EQ affects IQ so I believe that EQ is more important than IQ because emotions affect the way you think. Having a stable emotion leads to better thinking.

I agree with your last statement, stable emotions definitely leads to better thinking. But somehow geniuses have been people with unstable emotions :) That is something to ponder upon!! Cheers! Ram
