Have you had a bad vacation experience?

A few years ago, my hubby and I traveled from Pennsylvania to Dothan, Alabama, to visit some friends and start our vacation. One day, we decided to travel down to Panama City, Flordia. Now, I am a light skinned redhead, and knowing how treacherous the sun, sand, and water can be, I took precautions against sunburn. I used sunscreen, rented a beach umbrella, and covered up as much as possible. My hubby, on the other hand is a darker skinned Italian...he never worries about sunburn. Well, as the day went on, I noticed he was beginning to look a little red. I mentioned it to him, but he said he was fine. We finished our beach day and headed back to Dothan. We had planed to start the nect stage of our vacation the next day, and headed to Nashville, Tennessee. We checked into our motel, which was right across the road from the Opryland Hotel, so we spent a few hours walking around this amazing hotel. When it was time for dinner, we went to a popular Nashville restaruant where there is a live show after dinner, and since we were there for dinner, we had front row seats for the entertainment. Well, I noticed hubby wasn't eating much, and he started looking a little pale. He had sun poisoning. We returned to the motel, missing the show, and he went to sleep. I read the yellow pages. The next day, he stated he felt better, so we continued with our plans to go to the Opryland Amusement Park. My hubby's favorite country lady, Tammy Wynette, was scheduled to appear in an afternoon show. She cancelled. He was the most disappointed man I ever saw. Finally, the vacation was over. We headed home, and, thankfully, the trip home was uneventful. Considering how the vacation had gone, I was suprised we made it home safely.

Hi shammubsg: I would love to travel at least once a year because it's the best way to enjoy life. We need a litle time for ourselves, because life it's not only work and work; you have to take care of yourself. Regarding the possible problems, the only thing we can do is to be sure about our itinerary to prevent any bad surprises in the future but as lacieice has mentioned it's almost impossible to be 100% that nothing will happend. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day. ALVARO.

I have heard of sun stroke and it is not at all pleasant to have. Your poor husband wasn't happy on that trip. You were lucky that you didn't get sunburn on that sunny beach in Florida. When I was 14 years old I went on a vacation to Greece with my mom. I got my shoulders badly burned. It was ever so painful. Then at age 20 years old I traveled around the world. In Hawaii I got my legs sun burned. It was very painful and I changed from shorts to trousers. Later on my trip around the world I was in Malaysia. There I was walking along when I thought I was stepping out into the road. I fell down an open drain and severely injured my leg. In the Maldives I had been on a cycling adventure on some neighboring islands. I saw a palm fringed beach and I pushed my bike along to it. I stood taking photos of it with my camera. There were some pretty little islands just off the coast. Then a man came up to me on the lonely beach and he attacked me. I was very lucky to get away from that dangerous man.

Thanks for responding maximax. Despite all the mishaps, it sounds like it was an amazing trip. I guess there are perverts everywhere. I'm glad you were able to get away, and I hope he did not hurt you.

Sorry your hubby got sick. About 5 or 6 years ago my foster mom was having a reunion in Hershey, PA and she offered to pay for me, my son, and my little sister's hotel and admission to the park if I drove her down. It would have been a great trip, but my sister, who was 9 at the time, was just miserable the whole time for no reason at all. She whined about what rides she got to go on, she whined because she had to sit alone (because I sat with my son who was 7).. there honestly wasn't anything she didn't whine about. It just made the whole trip rather miserable. More recently I've been to visit a friend in Ottawa. The first time I went up alone, got lost, and once I finally did reach her house there was a very small earthquake... though it didn't ruin the rest of my vacation. The last time we went up there I was miserable, and I don't even know why. It was my birthday, and my friend and my hubby tried to make it the best weekend for me. My friend made me a cake and watched our kids so hubby and I could go see a movie, but I was just so stressed out, even after a few drinks. It was just miserable, and it was my fault.

Thanks for responding, katsmeow. Sometimes fate steps in and messes things up for no known reason. Hopefully, your next trip will be much better.

A few years ago after we moved to the northwest, we realized how lonely it gets away from family, specially during Christmas. So we decided to drive down to California on the 22nd of December planning to be with family and relatives on Christmas eve. Armed with mapquest printouts we drove the 20 or so hours to get to LA. Except for some visibility issues up in the mountains of California, the trip was relatively uneventful. Now going back, there was a snowstorm so we had to scramble and stay in whatever motel left availble just before the mountain pass. We stayed on a run-down motel where we thought we could here rats chirping in some dark corner of the room. After spending the night, and finding that the mountain was still unpassable, we had to drive 10 hours or so back, leave the car, fly back home. And then I had to come back a week after, pick up the car, and drive home. So instead of driving and saving on vacation, it turned out bad because it became very expensive. It was bad, but it was memorable.

Hi lacieice: My worst experience on a vactaion program happened like almost ten yuears before. We went to an island in the caribbean, I don't remember its name, it was something like IslaArena I think since the moment we arrive I knew this wouldn't be a nice trip. The sun was horrible, the food was only fish and I don't like fish, the air conditioning wasn't working and we have to pass a whole night there until we reach to the main city of our travel in our hotel. I can tell you that I won't like to come back to this island. Lol. XD. Thanks for sharing your experience. Have a nice day. ALVARO.

Yes. We had this group who traveled to Puerto Princesa Palawan here in the Philippines. This is one of the most visited tourist spot. We were a group of 13. I was the one who planned for the trip including the searching for accommodation. I found one from the web.. all are set and so we travel. we reached the place with a scattered rain showers... my golly! i wonder how we will see the beauty of beaches since it was raining. but we still headed for the places listed on our itinerary. to cut the story short, the 3-day tour , it was raining plus the accommodation that we got from the web was not too good. we even experienced black outs ( no electricity ) and here is the saddest part, we ate the same kind of food from day 1 to day 3 f our stay there. it was the caretaker of the place who cooked for us. too bad we haven't seen the beauty of that place. for sure i will still visit that place but this time, it will be during SUMMER!
