I was talking to hubby the other day and he said he wat was talking to his buddy @ work and the guy had said he wanted to borrow our tiller. I"m like oh... ok. His pal is a good guy, but then he told me that so and so over heard thm and then they all wanted to borrow our tiller. I told him the one guy fine... if he comes and gets it, has his wife make us a gallon of their home made salsa, + replaces my movie that guys BFF borrowed from us and lost. And As for the others.... they know what Home Depot's Rental Dept looks like!

I've never let people that didn't live in our neighborhood borrow things from us. But for the neighbors, I think that is just the neighborly thing to do. I know that when we lived in the other house the guy across the street would let us borrow his tiller and occasionally we would let him borrow some of Tom's tools and such. In fact, whenever we were outside working on cars, Allen would come over and help my husband with the task as well. I miss having him as a neighbor.

Yeah this guy is in the next county over... not even the same town as us. We have a neighbor like yours he's awsome! We usually end up receiving the help or remnants from some project of his which is fine because we can't afford to do the things or projects we need to do around the house and yard. His wife gave me a wheel barrel full of black eyed Susans for my yard. The only hard part is the rabbits like them too much or atleast when I plant them anyways.

hi 3snuggleBunnies my dad taught this adage whenI was a child and I have learned the hard way that I should stick to it as people start out okay then hedge and haw and it takes forever to get back a lawnmower,or rake or hoe or anything like that. then when it comes to some things my hubby had overrode me, He let a fellow resident borrow our garage storage space, and the guy moved out and so did all my set of Samsonite luggage and of course the apt. manager had no idea where the thief had moved. So from then on I stuck to my dad's old adage much to people's disgust but we lost no more belongings.

That was nice of you to share your storage space. But terrible that you lost items when the person moved out. Wich reminds me of something about a borrower wich I should remind hubby of... If we can't afford to repair or replace the item it's best we keep it in our posession.

This is why we never lend tools, to many times they come back broken or are never returned at all. It's just not worth it to be a good guy when often you put the whole relationship at risk over a tool.

It's not worth the risk to me either. But hubby wants to be a good guy to this co-worker. And seeing my post here is reminding me I need him to find out when we are getting our tiller back, it makes me nervous as we've only had it a few years and we only use it 1-2x a year.

As long as I have collateral I don't mind lending something out thats precious to me, but I still try to do that only to people I trust. I have been burned before once with library fees that are still outstanding (like over $400 :( and ever since I have been very cautious about who I let borrow what and especially if its in my name =] Happy lotting, -WickedSpies

Well that's just it! We bought this tiller new and had to finance it. So IMO those folks can either go finance their own or rent one! I'm not a fan of borrowing unless it's certain people.
