How do you make sure that you keep up with a discussion you have joined?

I have now started to check the 'responded' tag under discusssions and if someone has posted after me I return back to it to try and keep the discussion active. What methods do you use?

I am very new here, so I do not have a very sophisticated method yet. I mostly try to remember where I posted (and most of the time I do remember!) and check back whenever I have the time. I really should come up with a better system, though! Maybe I will try yours. So kudos for starting this thread!

Thank you, I find it very interesting to see how other people manage their Mylot account, I think that you can ;learn how to be a much better Mylotter by reading some of the discussions on here

Once I post in a discussion that is written by someone else, I think that I have written pretty much everything that I was going to say. I might go back and look after a day and add something, but that's pretty much it. I have pretty much decided to move on, unless I think of something else that will add to a discussion. However, this method obviously varies when I respond to the comments to the discussions that I have personally posted. I always keep an eye on the topics in my profile. I have alerts turned off, because I check my e-mail so infrequently, that it would not matter. Still, I keep up on the responses and at some times, the responses to my responses that I have given. Yeah, when I throw a topic up there, I normally check every couple of hours to see what others are posting. They've taken the time to comment so I should make the attempt to take the time to respond.

I use notifiers and the 'responded' tab as well as the 'my activity' sortie in my profile for the discussions where I have only left a comment on a response and have not got my own response box. I have also created a folder in my browser where I bookmark particular discussions that I want to keep up with too.

Wow, you are organised!! That actually is a very good idea though, as sometimes discussions can go on for several days and it is easy to 'lose' them!!

That is how it is normally done. Sometimes we do not get messages in our mail when someone comments or responds and so the best method is to go to 'discussions' where as you know there is a drop down menu.

I always feel rude if I miss a response I feel I should have answered!!

You don't have to feel that way as sometimes due to pressure elsewhere one tends to skip this activity but let me tell you it is in your own interest too to comment on responses received as that is how one earns here!

You can go here oldchem and set other notifiers to 'on' too: http://www.mylot.com/nr/editNotifications.aspx

I only seem to get e-mails when a friend starts a new discussion, to be honest I would be inundated with e-mails otherwise!!

I just don't worry about it much, but if I get a mail about an comment or response then read it and reply to it if I think it is needed. Sometimes some discussion attracts me so much so I add bookmark and keep watching for new responses and comments and can easily be involved.

Don't you enjoy though carrying on the discussion that you have joined in?

I do like to carry on the discussion but some times I don't have the spirit or mood. But now I am in good spirit, haha

Hi Oldchem, I tend to do this too, think itis the only way you can other than to keep lots of tabs open and refresh to see what is happening. Huggles. Ellie :D

Once I have responded to a discussion, I won't comment back to the discussion starter, unless they have asked a question in their comment to me. I feel that once I have given my response, it pretty much lets the discussion starter know that I have said the way I feel. Very seldom to I ever comment back to their comment, unless like I said they ask me a question, or I may have forgot something and I want to add to what I had already posted. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

if i'm still online, i just open up a bunch of tabs and keep them open...i'm kind of lucky that my laptop is able to take so many open windows.. but if i get on for the first time after a while, i'll update myself with the 'started', 'responded' and 'activity' thingamajiggy in my profile page..
