what is the use of adding banner in mylot

i saw here lot of discussions how about to banner HTML in my lot i don't know why people asking such a question and use adding banners , Please will somebody help me

putting banners in your profile is one way of getting referrals here in mylot. you can also see my profile. welcome to mylot!

I look at it as a good way of getting referrals...someone here on mylot may check out your profile & see your banners & even join up..it can & has happened
