Ok, some god ( Thor maybe? ) must not be happy. What other reason could you give for this. http://www.wdtn.com/dpp/on_air/sunrise/giant-jesus-statue-burns-to-the-ground ( not a referral link ) You'd think the Styrofoam would insulate it making it less likely lightning would hit it, but yet....

There was another topic already started this morning on this very subject. First off people need to know this isn't what Jesus looks like and all the pictures you see from the Catholics are not what Jesus looks like. This is actually modeled after Cesare Borgia the illegitimate son of a pope who became more of an anti-Christ than living any kind of saintly life. Its a disgrace that this mans image is chosen to represent Jesus.

I always thought that Jesus was dark skinned and Arabic looking. What does your research say he looks like?

pretty interesting. A church has survived WWII while being bombed but this is the first damage I have known the church to have actually had.

I just find it amazing. First off a GIANT Jesus statue made of Styrofoam & THEN it gets struck by lightning...

I couldnt find anything about it made of styrofoam but it had a wireframe made of metal and well that would make it a good conductor.

I looked at several links before I posted. One of them must have mentioned the Styrofoam. That should would have acted as an insulator.

LOL the Big Butter Jesus! LMFAO...well I would have to say that the fact that its "skeleton" was METAL is a great place to start! the thing was HUGE and a perfect lightening rod..it was only a matter of time NOT someting divine etc...

I passed that statue on my way to my new home! I was talking about it to my son I asked why it didn't hit the Hustler billboard that was also close. He said the water is a great conductor (the statue is surrounded by a pond) and combined with the steel in the statue it's a wonder it wasn't struck before. There's all kinds of speculation and a lot of people think it's a message from God that we should straighten up and fly right. They'll rebuild it, they say.

I saw this news report on yahoo. It caught my attention with the so called 6 story Jesus statue struck by lightening. Of course I think that was a bit of an exaggeration. I don't know if God had anything to do with it, but after reading the story, I wouldn't be surprised if he did. They spent $230,000 on that statue. That was their own greed. The guy who runs the local church there claimed that his wife told him to put it up, and it was a sign of hope and inspiration to the people. What its really for is to get people's attention, to bring them into the church, so they can make more money. Instead of using $230,000 to help people in need, they used it for a useless Jesus statue. If I saw that statue I would be inspired. I would be inspired to never go there.

What other reason? It's a 60 foot tall steel-frame sticking up from a plain. How's "Physics works that way" strike you as a reason?

The rest of the building materials ( Styrofoam ) & the protective coating they used should have acted as an insulator though. Guess it wasn't enough.

Wow this is pretty sad, but for me, I do not believe in another God. I am Christian so I believe that Jesus is real. Lightning can strike random places. like a top of a church. If something hits another thing, it does not mean that someone hates that other thing. I do not believe in other Gods. Just putting my opinion out there.
