There seem to have been many controversies that Facebook is not safe. In my opinion there are many measures which make it safe. It then depends on the user to use them well and make the necessary adjustements and privacy settings well from time to time. There is even an option to hide photos or posts from friends. There are various options which make it safe and I think that lack of safety comes from irresponsible people or people with a lack of knowledge of how important safety on the net is. What do you think?

I think Facebook's privacy settings make it have the appearance of being safe and yes, to some degree it's a matter of how the user uses these settings. However, I recently read an article in the newspaper that stated that Facebook can sell your information - regardless of whether it's set to private or not - to employers, police and law enforcement and others I'm sure. So basically, the best practice to follow would be this. Set your privacy settings to where you feel comfortable about them and do not put any anything on Facebook that would incriminate you or that you wouldn't want others to see. Because let's be honest. There is no true privacy on the internet. Every single thing you do on the internet or a computer for that matter can be obtained and or recovered. Your ISP knows every website you go to and can and will report you to law enforcement if you continuously go to or do anything illegal on the internet. Just keep all these things in mind and you should have little problems.

Yes you are right. Nothing is ever safe and private on the internet after all. Very well said argument and good points. But what can be striclty speaking be classified as being illegal on the internet? For instance, if you try to set up a 'business' is that illegal? I have a friend of mine who tried to make a website and to sell products or services throguh it. He does not pay taxes on the sales so do you think taht is illegal? Or for instance someone who does 'business' and carries out online payments... such payments are not taxable, so would they be illegal because if you want to set up a business by opening a shop you have fiscal receipts and so on. Or people who try to employ others through the internet and pay them online? You opened up an interesting discussion :)

Those are some interesting questions regarding business that is conducted online. I'm pretty sure that here in Texas if you buy something or make an online purchase, there is no sales tax added to it. However, I do know that in some states, a business owner is required to add a sales taxes to everything he/she sells online. I'm not sure what the laws are for those states, but to answer your questions to the best of my ability, I will say that it really depends on what state you live in and the laws that are in place there for businesses and individuals. But yeah, for the record (Since we're on the subject of taxes now), anyone and everyone should file there taxes. Even if you can't pay them right away, file them anyway because the IRS is more likely to work with you if they see that you at least filed them rather than just blowing them off and not filing. My Stepfather made the mistake of not filing his for at least 1 year...maybe 2 and he and my mother owe the IRS big time! Just letting people know that if you try to mess the IRS they will find out and they will get you...after they wait long enough to tag on a whole bunch of interest. Just a word of advice for any and everyone! Daniel

you are right. it depends on the user and what information they wish the world to know. it also depends on what they post or upload on their profiles. However, it is also up to the staff of facebook to install control software and measures to ensure that there is more security in the website
