Dyna has new *friends* and she's so excited!

There is an L shaped open field across the street from our house which has recently been fenced off with a big double gate installed. We suspected what was coming and we were right. There are 7 or 8 very large cows living over there now. Dyna spotted them the day before yesterday and she was so excited! She had never seen cows before and she ran from window to window looking at them and whining so my husband took her over on the leash to see them. Now it has become a morning ritual for them. Until this morning Dyna just sat quietly and looked at them while they looked back at her but this morning she decided to bark at one of them. The cow didn't seem to like that much so she (no horns so we're assuming it's a she) stomped her hoof on the ground a couple of times. Dyna thought that was pretty cool so she barked again and the cow stomped again. That's when my husband decided that it was time to leave since he wasn't too sure how strong that gate was. I told him that he's never going to be able to get out of this morning walk as long as those cows are over there. So, do your pets have any unusual friends? I'm afraid that the next time Dyna gets loose she will be right over there and then she might just experience being kicked by one of her new friends. I really don't think they like her as much as she likes them.

hi spalladino Do crows count? I had no pets as I lived in a large apartment complex. But I had a window opening out onto the road around the complex. Everyday this big black crow would light on mywindow pane and go caw caw I would look at him, and go caw caw back. I will be darned then he would change to caw, caw, caw so I mimicked him. Then he went off circling around and came back with another crow. They both sat there and went caw , caw, caw at me. I went caw , caw. they were not having it. Then the bigger of the two looked at me, and went one time caw. That must have been goodbye. so the next morning he and his mate come and its caw, caw, caw, caw which I think was maybe the crow version of good morning how are you? So then I went out to breakfast, had a bad fall broke my shoulder and had to have a false joint which changed my whole life. when I came home from the hospital a different younger crow came to my window said caw and was gone. I never saw my crow friends again. But I do think that in their language when I went caw they were reading something from me and they seemed to like me as bizarre as it sounds. I did have fun for awhile with the big black crow and his smaller paler wife.

That's a wonderful story, Hatley! My granddaughter and I "tweet!" at birds but they never want to stick around and talk to us. She's two and loves birds so we have to "tweet!" at every bird that lands anywhere nearby wherever we are.

The cows might surprise you--they are very intelligent and make wonderful pets. I'm sure that once they get used to Dyna they will be good friends. My dogs don't have friends--Gus is so jealous he wants to kick everyone's azz and Cookie is a barking fiend, she'll bark at air if there's nothing else to bark at.

LOL...Dyna barks at nothing too...at least nothing that I can see or hear. As I posted above, one of the cows does seem to like Dyna and my husband but there's a big ole bull in there now so the visits might have to stop.

Hi Spalladino! Great to hear a story about "our girl Dyna!lol So, she likes cows! Well, as big as she is I think she may have met her match! Poor Dyna! That must be so funny to see her trying to "make friends". I wish your husband could get a picture of that! I do hope the fence is strong because I wouldn't want to think what would happen if the cows got out with all the homes and kids around either! But, I hope that Dyna enjoys her "new friends" for now! Thanks for the cute story! I'm just glad that she has grown up to be so happy and healthy! Tell her "Aunty Opal" sends her a big hug!

Hi Opal! I gave Dyna a big hug for you. The update is that they brought a bull *with horns!!* over there yesterday so it looks like this field is being used for mating! Dyna didn't miss her morning visit but luckily that bull wasn't interestesd in her. One of the cows does seem to like Dyna though...or she thinks that it's feeding time. My husband says that the first time that bull gets irritated the visits are going to end.

Dyna sounds so gorgeous! She just wants to make friends with the cows but they are not too interested by the sound of it! My pets don’t have unusual friends and there certainly are not any cows where we live in suburbia! My cat Rosie showed up at our house six years ago as a stray and while we had her outside and we were looking for her owners, she befriended our dog Cassie and they started sleeping together in the kennel, they walked everywhere together, it was quite sweet.

We had a cat once who thought she was a dog because she turned up as a stray when she was very young and our momma dog started caring for her. She used to look so funny hanging out in the yard with the dogs.
