She also means that you need to stand and be your own person. Don't do stuff just because other people are doing it. Getting lost in the world is letting T.V. and people tell you what is cool and what you need to be doing. My dad has always told me, "Be a leader not a follower." To me the two sayings could be the same. Followers live in the world and Leaders live of the world. To me if you are a strong person and not easily influenced by people, you are already on a right path and living by the saying of your mother.

Hello Sadie, i think it mean something biblical as mentioned in the previous post. well from what i understood so far in addition to the sermons i've been to. i think it meant: indeed you live in this world, but do not follow whatever the world provides you with. in another word, we may be here on on Earth, but be wise to choose what is right from wrong and therefore do not follow whatever is offered to you. hope this helps =)
