My younger brother does and it wasn't long ago he found out! My brother has been grinding his teeth since he was little. He tried mouth guards.Wore them out! Ground his teeth down so much he has had to have some of his teeth repaired by the dentist thanks to the grinding! He had a habit of falling a sleep at family get togethers for example. Finally a doctor suggested getting a sleep test done. He did and my brother finds out he has had sleep apnea for years! Now he has to wear a mask at night which is hooked up to a specail machine so he can breath better! Never thought he had sleep apnea thanks to teeth grinding!

I've known a lot of folks with apnea. I even have a machine, but the mask gives me migraines, so I can't use it. The roomie can't sleep without hers, and Maggiepie even has a BI-pap that ramps up and down rather than having just a C-pap. the Bi-paps are for those who don't do the opposite of what most of the people do. Either they don't inhale or they don't exhale, can't remember which.

I am not sure which problem is my brother's. He said he went through 3 masks to get the proper fit. My brother says it does help but he isn't thrilled having to sleep on his back! I wonder if I have some kind of sleep apnea because of my weight.

It's possible you might, but sleeping on his back-I don't know anyone tho has a c-pap who sleeps on their backs. Tell your brother he can sleep however he wants - the only time they require that is during the tests to provoke the apnea.

I have never heard of such thing before and i happy to learn it from you though, however it is really bad for you brother but I think what the doctor has decided will prove eventually very good to him.

I knew my brother has ground his teeth since he was a kid. Little did he know and the rest of the family that it would lead to sleep apnea! I wonder if I do becuase I am a terrible sleeper and I'm overweight, too!

I think sleep apnea has to do with the back of your throat and not with your teeth. I have an uncle who has it, too, and he wears a mouthpiece along with the breathing mask. The mouthpiece keeps his jaw in a certain position to help keep his airway open.

My brother tried the mouth guards but kept wearing them out! What ever coused the sleep apnea with my brother coused him to grind his teeth and that isn't a lie! The mask and the machine helps him and he has no more problems with sleeping.
