I've never been blessed to have a child of my own. However, I've had 4 stepdaughters. I feel I must say from the experience of being a daughter to a GREAT Mother, that the absolute BEST way to take care of your children is to LOVE them FIRST & foremost!!! Once you have children, their needs should come FIRST!!! Please note that I said NEEDS & NOT WANTS!!! With my Mom I NEVER needed for anything. However, when I wanted something we couldn't afford I'd hear "You're old enough for your wants not to hurt you."
She was right!!! I always had a roof over my head, a Mother waiting for me to get home from school, food on the table, & a Mother who LOVED me when she didn't have time to love herself!!! I feel that spoiling a child is tantamount to child abuse. When I asked for something I wanted instead of something I needed, she had NO trouble saying NO!!! She taught herself how to sew in order to make sure I could have nice clothes. Some of the girls I went to school with made fun of my homemade clothes. I'd quickly point out that my dress looked EXACTLY like theirs & I had 5 of them NOT just one!!! When prom time came, we couldn't afford a store-bought prom dress, so she took me to the store & had me pick out the one I would want to buy. Then she went home & made me one that looked BETTER!!! She seldom used the words "I love you", but I NEVER felt unloved!!! She knew what I needed even when I didn't know. So, my advice is LOVE your children MORE than you love yourself!!!!

I would like to think that I am a good parent. I hope that others can see me this way as well. You work so hard to teach your children right from wrong. You hope the lessons you teach them will help them to be better people. Not everyone can be a good parent. it takes a lot of dtermination and a lot of love. I hope I have enough of both to endure.

Before I thought by just providing my son's needs it will make me a responsible mother but everything changes when I noticed that my wasn't close to me. Responsible parenting includes being a provider not just financially but also emotionally. Kids would never appreciate the thought of providing his/her food, toys, dress and some other things, instead he/she needs your attention, your touch, your love and care, your time, and your guidance.
