Okay, most people would opt out of landline nowadays, because the outrageous cost of it, and most people would rather go for Magic Jack, or other voice over internet options. But the question I have here regarding to fax machine. I have a fax machine here, and after I cancel my land line service, I couldn't use it anymore because the magic jack won't be the same as those land line. Is there other options I have? I understand that even nowadays, fewer people would use fax too.

Fax to email is the newest trend for receiving faxes. You get a free fax to email number starting with an 08 number and it is sent to your email. I see other people gave you free fax to email websites. Here is another 1: http://www.evolvingconcepts.co.za/fax2email/index.php?id=4925

MagicJack and other VoIP services isn't compatible with faxing. You might be able to send a couple of fax but most of the time it just won't go through. I suggest get an online fax service instead and just don't use fax machine. Oneline fax service is cheap and there are pay as you go so you don't have to worry about unused fax. Onesuite Fax is a pay as you go online fax service. Check it out http://www.onesuite.com/products_OneSuiteFax.asp

I disagree that landline cost is outrageous, at least not in India. It is still very cheap to use landline. We do use VoIP for our international calls, but since calls to India on VoIP are very costly, it is economical for us to use landline for Indian calls. As for fax, we don't use fax machine for sometime now. My father-in-law still use his machine to send us fax. We have eFax with which we receive and send fax out using emails. You might want to try that option. Please check www.efax.com for pricing information. With the subscription, you can get landline number of your choice. We have two numbers subscribed from eFax, one for US number and one for UK number.

I have a MagicJack (unfortunately) and It's one of the worst things I have ever bought. Sometimes it will work great. Other times I think it will be working fine, but it's apparent that the person on the other end can't hear a word I am saying. I've gone back and forth with MagicJack support to no avail. Faxing with the thing is a joke. It's really embarrassing when you need to send something professionally, and when the person receives it they can't read a single word on the page. As soon as my year is up with MJ, I'm DONE! However there are some services online that allow you send faxes. Not sure on any specifics but there ARE services out there.

There's a lot of online fax services being offered by different companies. They'll assign a virtual number for you that can be reached by a normal fax machine (connected to a landline).
