Is doing Facebook just a waste of time?

One of our friends online commented that many people may be bored and they are finding means to spend time. And that was her answer on my question why FB is so addicting to many. Then I thought of the question above. Because if many who spends time doing facebook are bored, it could mean they have lots of time to spend or waste. Now, in this light, is doing facebook really just a waste of time? If not, why?

My funny friend is not actually too funny when he is in FB. He flirts and it is irritating. LOL. Anyway, I still enjoy it because the more serious one became funny when they use FB.

I was addicted to facebook only because of the games it had and we were always playing with friends in the office itself but then gradually I started to find facebook boring even with the games it was so routine and nothing new infact so I prefer to go there only once a week and stay all week days in mylot.

Same here. I now visit fb twice a week or three times in a week. I ought to be busy. But somehow, I am now learning that I am spending much time with trivial things. If I really want to connect with my friends, I would use FB to find them and when I found them, I will ask for their number or a reunion. That, I believe is more quality time.

In my opinion, I think it depends on the user. Like, if you want to connect with your friends or play a game that you like then it won't be a waste of time. I had FB for a long time even before any of my friends, classmates, schoolmates and relatives are there. And now all of them are there, and you already know who likes posting to brag or posting to get even or posting to sell, it's kinda boring. Just opening it and seeing all your relatives in there, for some reasons is not appealing anymore. I've played yoville, petville, farmville, mafia, all are now boring. LOL.

Yes some people above are correct. It depends on what your purpose in FB is, although it is multi useful. The most common reason i know why people use FB is to keep in touch and updated with friends. Well "doing" facebook is not really a waste of time, sometimes thought, you can use FB to get the stress off because of the huge amount of games it has which means, FB is not really a waste of time but u can use FB to waste ur time =)

As long as you are interested and enjoying it, you may not feel bored. I hardly have any time to feel bored. I do check FB everyday. Those who do not know to use facebook properly may feel bore just like my husband. He doesn't know to use it and he is bored ;)

Well, I have a co-worker who made use of FB to have fun with her husband. They both browsed on it at the same time and share stories of the pictures of common friends and introduces new friends. Just to share.

I think it just depends on how you use facebook really. For some, they have family members or friends abroad who's communication can be done through social networking sites such as facebook where they can chat and watch pictures. So it wouldn't be a waste of their time, would it? But for ones who just wanna let time pass by like I do, I find facebook really useful for the thousands of games and applications that preoccupies me and not to the point of considering it a waste of time since I enjoy doing it. So I conclude, facebook can really waste your time if you think its a waste. But not for me. Best of luck snowhybiscuis.

That's good. From what you said, the intent of the users justify the usefulness of FB. However, on the other end, it motivates people to place reactions and issues publicly. Nowadays, people learned not to keep much secret. Many becomes transparent. I guess that is one advantage of using FB. The fear of expression is eliminated.

well it really depends. for some people facebook is their way of keeping in touch with friends, family and even business associates. i think there are those who actually use facebook to conduct business. then again, there are those who as you said just seem to be bored and waste their time posting whatever.

I agree. The quality of discussions here are better. Because most of the time, with FB, they shoutout their personal issues in life. They cannot actually express it towards the person and so they uses FB to bring our their frustrations.

Hi, I believe that something too much is not good. FB had a good side and also bad side.Using FB we can connect friends from the past or friends in the other place. but too much play it will throw away our close friends. My conclusion is too much FB will make your distance friends closer and make your close friends further.

Wow! You have a nice point. It made me think if it is happening to me right now. I think it is indeed happening because I tend to focus more time doing FB to communicate with friends instead of talking to them in person.

for me its not. I open my fb account regularly to communicate to my friends and to be updated with our school stuffs. Our blockrep made a group page for us to know what are the important things we need to do for the next day. Fb is really useful. I also check the account of my crush if he is dating a new girl. haha :))

Hahaha... Thanks for sharing that. Why not check the site of those who like you or those who courts you? That way, you'll be able to gauge if you will have them or not. Just an idea.
