Sony, why would you do this to us?

It has come to my attention through a friend, that the new hardware version of the PS3, does NOT allow you to play older PS2 and PS1 games from their original discs, forcing you to repurchase these games through their PS Network. So this got me thinking...there is a new 360 out, and the first page I noticed that has been taken off of the xbox.com website? The Backwards Compatibility list. This list, lists all the original xbox games, that can presently be played on the 360. Not all original xbox games have made this list though, I believe the last update was from Nov 2009. I say update, because from the webpage, there is firmware update you can download, to install onto your 360, in order to play the original xbox games on said 360. ANYWHO, this list is now gone, so does this mean that Microsoft is following in the footsteps of Sony in order to get more profit? Why couldn't you at least give us free Online play vs having to choose between Silver and Gold memberships? (And soon apparently a Diamond membership, but to the best of my knowledge, this will only be available to the US, unless things have changed due to the new hardware version of the 360.) But Kinect? - Looks fricking awesome!

That sounds like a reasonable explanation but in some cases the gamecards aren't that much different (comparing gameboy classic and gameboy colour games for example). With cd's the difference can't be that big either, even though newer games ask for more diskspace and possible other new features, but these features can only top the previous once. In that case I see no problem or extra costs for backwards compatibility. In the case of the wii which allows you to purchase SNES (super nintendo entertainment system) games through online shopping I do understand the compatibility problem because SNES used game cartridgdes that have no way of fitting into a wii (perhaps a converter would be possible, but that would indeed take time and money). I guess that any way you look at it money is the issue, whether it is to save money or to gain more money.

well i really dont know if blu ray lens have built in compatibility for dvds and such. but when it was the dvd cd days, they need 2 lens for both and not 1 for 2. i cant really explain it but one easy example of this is when dvd drives of pc cant read dvds but cds have no problem.

I just heard of Kinect today, I have to find out what this console is all about but I hear good things about it. The boy I lived next door to claims that you need a HD television to be able to use the Kinect. Perhaps you know of this, I will also start searching for more info myself as I am eager to find out how it works. Why microsoft does this, I have no idea. The only thing I can think of is profit. That's why nintendo didn't allow the old gameboy games to play on DS either. Though, gameboy advance did play all the old games and I loved that about that console. They know we will buy the new games aswell, so why bother?

lol of course it's for more money. As for Kinect, no, to the best of my knowledge, you will NOT need a hd tv. Kinect basically scans your movements, and allows you to play using your body, insted of the controller itself. I have seen this technology before, by usb camera, for both the 360 and the ps2, but before the cameras would just focus on specific movement with just the hands and feet, like dance games. Kinect now scans the whole body and you become the controller directly. It also has voice commands, such as "Game Pause", etc. The official product info webpage is: http://www.xbox.com/en-CA/kinect/ There are also videos showing the magic. I intend to also purchase this, but like with every other console/accessory that comes out, I tend to wait up to a year after it comes out to purchase it. Why you may ask? Because most likely the price will be down by then, and also indicates if it was popular, and got good or bad reviews, or hardware upgrades to provide better performance.

Thanks a lot, candymarie. I thought it was a whole new console, the way he was talking about it that was what I thought he meant. But like you say, it's an accessoiry for the allready existing XBOX 360. I don't think you'll need HD either, we have a XBOX 360 that played fine on our other tv. The quality on our new tv (which is HD) is a lot better though, but it's perfectly compatible with older television sets. It sounds like a lot of fun though this new accessoiry but like you I tend to waitte till prices drop. I wasn't in a hurry to own a wii either and I only got one a few months ago, at a much better price and lots of games are cheaper now aswell. Even though a wii 2 is coming out I know I will have plenty of fun on this one for a lot of time to come and till prices on a new release have dropped aswell, lol!
