new vs. original

I am a huge Johnny Depp fan and I think that he was amazing in this version of Charlie and the Chocolate factory. I have to say I prefer the original. Don't mess with perfection. The original was the best. What's your opinion?

I do appreciate that the new one is more true to the original book and that it does have a darker tone to it. However, I HATE the oompa loompas in the new ones. The fact that they're all one guy and the songs are overly produced computer stuff just cheapens it for me. The original oompa loompas are great. Overall I do prefer the original more but I appreciate some aspects of the new one as well.

Thanks you have given me a different perspective on this movie. I always prefer the book to the movie although some movies are truer to the book than others.

I didn't know there was an earlier version of this movie. This movie with Johnny Depp was the first Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie that I watched. The little boy was cute (what was his name again?) and the factory looked so yummy with all those flowing chocolate. Yum! However, I do agree that the oompa loompas were weird and creepy. They looked similar and were not cute at all. Overall, I still loved this movie.
