dear mylotters, in his lifetime, my father used to have eyeglasses since he was 35. he came from a family of diabetics. but when he was around 52, he had an eye surgery.. a cornea transplant or change. and the operation was very swift. there was a donor which he didnt know and to make the story short, the operation was a success and his eyes remained bandaged for nearly a week. when the doctor said it was ok to remove the bandage, he went back to his clinic and had it removed. he wore dark glasses because he said the light seems to be too glaring. then as the days passed he tried reading with it.. no eyeglasses on and he said it was as clear as ever. since then, he stopped wearing the eyeglasses until his death last year. he was 77. ohhh and the color of his eyes have changed to blue from brown. i think it was an american donor. do you have any story about eye operations of friends or yourself? do share please. ann

No stories of the way that members of my family have had their lives change as a result of eye surgery. However, my grandfather had congestive heart failure from the time that I was born. He always knew that when he met his end there wouldn't be any organs in his body that wouldn't have been impacted by his illness. However, he always said that he wanted to donate his eyes to another person when his time came. I'm not positive that our family did this as I was only 13 years old at the time, but it was because of him I decided I wanted to be a donor as well.

dear dora, it is a very generous thought being a donor, always give hope to the people who need it and of course, they will forever thank these unnamed donors. have a nice day. ann

Hi ann, I had cateracts removed, or lens changed in my eyes. My sight was getting progressively worse. After the operation and the bandages removed, the difference was amazing. Things that used to just merge together, now have destinct borders. I only wear glasses for reading inside now. Mike.

Yes, this past week my father had his cataract operation. With God's grace things went well. He too is a diabetic and had to be hospitalized for 5 days to bring his blood sugar level down to be able to go through the operation. The operation was on Wednesday last.
