Last night, the apartment where my office mate is residing got burned. Luckily, he and his son only had minor injuries and the place were not burnt down. The fire started on the second floor. Before the fire has gone wild,it was already contained. Sad thing is, all his things got damaged by the fire and the water from the firetruck. Best thing is, they are still alive. We still do not know what caused the fire. I still don't have the heart to ask him yet for he still seemed to be dazed.
Accidents do happen, but if we could avoid this, let us do our part in maintaining a fire proof house. Here are few tips to ponder and practice:
1. Assess your home, if your home consists of too many papers, garbage, used and old clothes, throw these away or sell in a junk shop. These things are fire hazardous.
2. If you have kids at home, never leave any matches or lighter around.
3. Never leave a candle nor an incense unattended. If possible place it in tin can with sand in it.
4. Yearly check the electrical wirings of your home. Loose or substandard wires may trigger a spark that may lead to a big fire.
5. Always keep a fire extinguisher on hand. Make sure that your fire extinguisher has not yet expired and is still filled.
6. Have the number of the fire department always on hand. You may post it on the refrigerator for easy access.
7. If your budget can afford it, insure your house from fire.
Let us not take for granted this kind of tragedy. We never really know how hard it is to cope unless we are in that situation. Lastly, please pray for my office mate,so that he will be able to recover soon.
