Why are so many on the left pro-illegal immigration?

Immigration is becoming a hot button issue again with Arizona's new law. Many on the left are opposed to it sight-unseen with no idea what's really written in there. The very concept of a bill that would fight illegal immigration just scares the crap out of them. It's being challenged by morons like Eric Holder that haven't read it. Cities run by morons that haven't read it are boycotting Arizona. And of course, most of those who oppose it are blissfully ignorant of the federal law that it mirrors and have never EVER challenge the federal immigration laws. But what about those on the left who are doing their best to defy federal immigration laws? Why do we have "Sanctuary Cities" like San Francisco where illegal aliens can rape and murder Americans without fear of deportation? Why are California colleges offering scholarships to Illegal aliens? Why, with record deficits in the state of New Jersey, were the democrats so desperate to reward illegal aliens with IN-STATE TUITION that they tried to rush it through the state congress so a democrat governor would sign the bill before his republican replacement took over? Currently NINE states in this country reward illegal aliens with in-state tuition giving them a benefit not enjoyed by tax paying American citizens who do not live in those states. This is a blatant violation of federal law and yet democrats just don't seem to care. I've never heard anyone on the left talk about seriously fighting illegal immigration or securing out borders. They like to say "Immigration reform" but that's just meaningless drivel. Every major action from democrat politicians at both state and federal levels seems designed to encourage and reward illegal immigration. Can anyone explain why? What does anyone have to gain from this? Why do some democrats actively want to keep rapists and murderers who are here illegally in this country? In case you're wondering about the in-state tuition for illegals, here's the law that bans it. 8 U.S.C. ยง 1623 : US Code - Section 1623 http://codes.lp.findlaw.com/uscode/8/14/II/1623

I'm pissed, but the only part of this that surprises me is that it was said so openly. It also shows another part of what angers them about the Arizona law as it bans and punishes employers who hire illegal aliens. Oh nevermind. I forgot. These morons haven't actually READ the bill they hate so much. Either way, it's official, the Obama administration supports not only illegal immigration, but ensuring fair wages for illegal aliens. I just wish some of the people who support this crap could explain to me why.

I think that illegal immigration is wrong, but at the same time I do not agree with Arizona's Law. California has had a law just like it 100 years ago, and this law was considered racist. It was considered a form of racial profiling. I am not for illegal immigration at all, but I don't think that the Arizona Law is the solution to this problem. There has to be another way stopping illegal immigration.

What is racist about the Arizona law? Do you think that federal immigration laws are racist as well? It might surprise you to know that there is nothing in the federal law prohibiting racial profiling, which has been held up in court, whereas the Arizona law strictly prohibits it and sets penalties for officers who do not follow the law and use race as their sole reason for checking someone's immigration status.

If this law isn't racist, then is it that only Latinos are checked? Why not Whites or Blacks? I have never been pulled over for my race, but many of my friends have. They felt violated and felt like less of a person after the incident. Whites don't see this law as racial profiling, but it is. Whites never get pulled over for their race, but Latinos actually get pulled over for it often. I have seen it.

"If this law isn't racist, then is it that only Latinos are checked?" There is nothing in that law saying that only Latinos are checked. The law is VERY clear that you can not pull someone over for their race. They must already be lawfully detained for something else AND there must be reasonable suspicion to check their immigration status. If someone's saying "eh" too much they could have their status checked to be sure they're not illegals from Canada. Based on your statements it seems clear that you haven't read the bill and are instead working off of faulty information you've heard from others like the president who haven't read the bill either. I strongly recommend you read it and form your opinions based on the facts. Here's the bill. http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070h.pdf and here's the updated changes to it that were added to calm some people down about the less specific parts. http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/summary/h.sb1070_asamendedbyhb2162.doc.htm

Great points Taskr. I think it is also worth mentioning the use of social programs by illegal immigrants as well. In my state you do not have to prove citizenship to receive food stamps. In fact is says in the introduction that you will no be asked. The free healthcare (hospitals can NOT turn them away), housing (as proven by our own presidents aunt).

Hello again taskr, I came to your discussion to gain insight and sadly I see no one has responded with answers. I too wonder why the other side doesn't have an issue with it. A couple of things that I have heard over the years living in a state with a HUGE illegal immigrant problem, is that they do the jobs that American citizens won't do such as landscaping jobs and jobs working on farms. The questions they pose are would you pay higher amounts for produce in stores? They state that by highering citizens they would have to pay actual wages versus paying under the table. Causing increase in to consumers, as the cost would be forwarded on. I personally don't support immigration reform and believe that all states should adopt the new Arizona law. To come to this country illegally breaks the law. If I broke a state or federal law, as an american citizen I would be punished, so why don't we punish non citizens is a complete mystery to me. It pi$$es me off that not only are they not punished but are rewarded for it as you state. I will keep an eye on the discussion to see if anyone comes here with insight. Until then I will continue to voice my opinion and vote accordingly, maybe one day my voice ill be heard. As it stands now though I don't see that happening anytime soon, as everyday puts me further into the minority in the state of CA. Montana looks better and better everyday.

When I look at the papers we have to fill out for my husband to get his residents visa, thinking about illegals disgusts me no end. We are asking for nothing other than him having the right to live here in the USA where my home is and my children are. This doesn't even take into account the estimated cost which will be over $1300. He is 75 - has health ins and an income.

A lot of the ones that run for election are because they see it as a source of votes, many of which are not legal. The Acorn organizing was very good at fixing it so illegal immigrants could vote.
