South Africa went ahead and did just that. They gave the disoriented French side a real hammering and should really have one by 3 or more goals. But finally they won 2-1 after conceding a sloppy goal. But even then it was a fantastic result for the hosts and even though they exit at this stage they can go out with their heads held high. The Raymond Domanech era for France thankfully comes to an end and but there was time for more histrionics from the French coach as he refused to shake hands with South African coach Carlos Alberto Perreira.
