Last night a twister came thru the southern part of our county. http://www.wisn.com/news/23983588/detail.html Hero's from many communities responded to the calls for help. Communities 45 min away + came to help. Today my DH who is a CERT member was activated to help with the aftermath of the storm. It's awsome to know that not only people who are paid to respond like police, fire dept ect; volunteer to be trained and help in these situations.
Do you or anyone else volunteer to aid in your community in an emergency situation?

It is awesome to hear that there was so much support from the community in the aftermath of the disaster that was the tornado in your county. When there is a disaster in our area, I know that there isn't a lot that I'm able to do to help, but because of the way that I was brought up, I've always thought that it was very important to do whatever I was able to do to help in a situation. Normally I will find some things that I don't need anymore and I will donate those to the people that lost much of what they owned.

hi 3snuggleBunnies yes a number of years back one of the towns in our county had a terrific fire that destroyed row after row of apart ment complexes and left a lot of Californians homeless. My husband and I wehnt to one of the red cross shelters and helped people there for a whole day. We passed out linens and blankets and helped people to the cafteria it
was in one of the large high school gyms. It was fun to be of some real use to people completely dazed by the disaster. It made both of glad for what we did have. because I am now partly physically handicapped I would be more of a nusiance than a help in this kind of situation now.

We have floods and fires here and when that happens everyone for miles around turns out to do what they can. We are animal rescue people.
