Well, I have, the first time was my 18th birthday present to myself when I had a small dolphin put onto the top of my right ankle. The second time was when I was nineteen and I had interlocking hearts over my left breast.
So, have you ever gotten a tattoo? If you have, do you have any regrets about them? If you haven't, would you ever consider having one?
I look forward to hearing about your ink or lack of ink.

Yes I have 2 tattoo's. The first was my name written in Thai script on my left upper arm and I had that done about 15 years ago. I then decided that I wanted another one on my right arm but never really saw a design that I liked. After a 2 year wait I finally decided to design my own tattoo and see if it could be done.
Knowing that 6 months after having the 2nd tattoo done I would be emergrating to Thailand, I had the map of Thailand tattoo'don my upper right arm and underneath it written in Thai script again, the words "The land of smiles" Curvedto make a smiling mouth. This tattoo I wanted in colour.
Have I had regrets... No! In fact I have been very well accepted by the Thai people when they see my tattoo's and they relise that I have respect for their country, King, culture and themselves. However, they are not accepted to be had by a teacher in a Thai school, so I had to make sure they were well covered and never seen by the children.
Would I have any more... No I don't think so. I think I have just enough.

It isn't just teachers that have to keep their tattoos well covered. I worked in a hospital several years ago and I had to make sure and keep mine covered whenever I was at work. And, yes, that means that I couldn't wear skirts to work in, I always had to wear the scrub pants.

Yes, I have 2 tattoos. My first one I got when I was 21, not long after my eldest daughter was born. It is a winged horse (Pegasus) at the top of my left arm. Then about 6 years ago, I got a tattoo at the top of my right arm - a Faerie Aisha Neopet (a cat with wings). I like them both and don't regret having them. I don't think I will get any more though, because I passed out the second time and it took a while to get me back, then I was sick!

Any idea at all of what caused you to pass out and get sick when you were having that second tattoo done.

I suppose that low blood sugar can do that. I remember I once donated plasma and got really lightheaded afterward and I believe that was due to my having not eaten enough that day as well.

The tattooist thinks it was low blood sugar as I'd only eaten a banana that day. He gave me a sweet lollipop to suck afterwards.

No ink, but if I were going to get a tattoo, it would be some small, feminine thing, in a place that could be covered up...

Small and feminine are what I lean toward and both of mine are in places that are pretty easy to keep covered.

My first tattoo, was when I was 19, to show my patriotism for mine country, it is a red and black maple leaf on the back and right side of my neck, the only regret there being I later found out, that a good Christian shouldn't mar their body with markings.
My second tattoo, still before I learned enough about Christianity to be called a Christian, is of a Tiger and and Dragon, circling each other around a yellow and green yin yang, as a symbol of balance between wisdom and power. I got it as a graduating present to myself from college, waste of money, but done never the less, if you want to see, I believe they are both in the "My Photo's" section here on MyLot in my profile.
Sincerely and With Appreciation.

Well, you definitely can't be judged on your role as a good Christian if you didn't know any better when you had them done. I'm getting ready to look for your pictures.

My parents definitely couldn't have told me that only convicts have them because the original reason that I had a desire to have one was because of the fact that my great-grandfather had several of them.

Nope, I never did think to ink - hee hee!! When I was growing up, my friends would talk about the images they wanted to get tattooed on them one day . . . I've always been a complex person, so I could never think of one "symbol" or picture that would represent anything that I'd want permanently on my body. And I still feel the same way. So let me ask you if I may . . . why did you pick the images you picked? And did it hurt?

Well, I chose the dolphin on my ankle because I'd found my niche in sports with swimming when I was a child and as much time as I spent in the water, I felt like I really could have been part dolphin. As far as the hearts, I just chose them just because I liked them.
In all honesty, I don't think that they hurt. The most vivid memory of them that I have is that the position that I had to hold my leg in for the tattoo to be done wasn't comfortable at all.

Maybe it does have something to do with pain tolerance levels, I dunno. My brother and sister also both have a tattoo(s) and neither of them felt like it hurt very much at all either. But then, none of us have a fear of needles either.

Interesting - now I see the dolphin connection! I always thought getting a tattoo hurt. I specifically remember when Tom Hanks was in Bosum Buddies . . . his character got drunk one night and he was going to get a tattoo in honor of his girl. He never made it passed one zap from the needle because it hurt so much. So he called it getting "a love dot" tattoo. Hee hee.

dorannmwin Nope I have never been inked or had a tattoo of any
kind so guess I am a stickin the mud but tattoos never really
appealed to me either. No I do not think I would ever have
one as for one thing they look painful to have done to one'self.
and too I just do not like the idea of picture on my. I am a person
not a bulletin board for goodness sakes. to each his own ,if others
like them fine, i just dont like them on me. h e he he.

Each person is entitled to their own opinion. For me I like it, but my husband isn't a fan of them. I don't think that there is anything wrong with either one of our opinions.

Hi, dorannmwin. No, I have never been inked before. I would like to get one going down towards my lower back, but I am getting second thoughts about it. I don't want to get a tattoo that I may be stuck with forever as I get older. I am kind of worried about my skin as I am into an older age.

I don't think that having gotten a tattoo when you are younger would cause skin problems later in life. However, there is a chance that I am completely wrong about that assumption as well.

I have seen people that I think have far too many tattoos and I've never understood why there are people that would do something like that to themselves.

I only have one tattoo and it is a red eyed tree frog on my right ankle. I got it probably 4 years ago when I was 23 or so but being I am a severe diabetic and it was so far down on my leg that is took three times as long to heal and so I decided that one was enough for me....

I'm lucky that I didn't have any complications regarding the two tattoos that I have on my body. That said, I can completely see why you decided that the one that you have is enough for you.

Yep, I have one tattoo, of a daisy signifying that I am loved (loves me, loves me not) to always remind myself that I am loved, no matter how I am feeling. I want more, I'm going to get stars put somewhere (location not decided) for when I accomplish a few of my goals.

What a neat idea with the daisy. I woul have never have thought of something like that for myself. Then the stars is a neat idea as well, I would have them done individually to signify each goal that you accomplish.

I think that is the same reason that I have some degree of regret about the tattoo that I have on my chest. I got it just because it struck my fancy at the time. However, it didn't take long at all that I question the reason that I chose that specific tattoo.
