Hi,
Is this happening everyday? Then you really need to consult some good doc. Try to avoid spicy foods. Try to eat immediately when you are hungry. Please drink plenty of water. PLENTY of water. Antacid can be a quick fix, but not a permanent solution. You have a problem of acidity and that is a bit different from indigestion. Indigestion may even occur due to lack of acids in your stomach. You shouldn't overlook this for long, as this may even lead to ulcer. Thanks.
God bless you

Hi busybee, indigestion is the common after 60+. All these years our intestines will work and work and they get tired. So we should not give much pressure to it. While taking food, you must see that food should be gentle, easy digestible. Soups will do good. Small meals will be better. While eating food chew it properly coz the digestion will start from the mouth itself so half of the work will be over. You have to change your life style. Go for a morning walk. At this age exercise is not recommend. Take lots of water. But not immediately after food, take only a little water. After food try to take ajwan seeds it will help you a little. If you are getting stomach pain then consult doctor. Because the acidity is the caution for the health. Have a nice day.

Thanks - dear Jotomy ,for sharing your kind information.Yes, age plays an important part for digestion I do agree. I drink plenty of water, walk, and also eat not full to the stomach. The only problem I studied that is - I am sleeping late and having only 5 to 6 hours of sleep - this may be the reason...for indigestion is my view.

Hi busybee10, my husband's sister who lives with us is in her 70s now. She is quite fit and healthy for she likes to household chores daily like sweeping floor and fallen leaves. She does some weeding in the courtyard in the morning. She waters the vegetable as well as flower plants twice a day. I think the outdoor fresh air and the morning sunlight is good for her.
Few years back she did suffer from the back flow of gastric acid. The similar situation as what have mentioned with the burning sensation occurring after taking meals. After seeing she suffering from this for an hour or so for several days my husband then sent her to the family doctor in the nearby clinic. She recovered healthy as usual after taking the whole dosage of medicine. She never suffers from the same digestion problem any more since then I hope you would have your digestion problem solved after visiting and taking the dosage.
Take care and happy posting

Hai lkbooi ! After seeing your response just with curiosity I have gone through your profile and found out from where you were and also gone through your photographs
(7).
I was happy and immediately added as my friend,Hope you will surely accept that.
Now,coming to the discussion part - I am happy to note that your husbands sister is 70years and still has the passion to do small house hold works. That is pretty good.
This is the way we have to keep ourselves busy.
Regarding the problem which I faced I attended a doctor who has prescribed me some medicines and I am using them - hope to find out +ve results at the earliest. Some defect I found out myself was I am sleeping less and hence this indigestion any how expecting to get cured at the earliest.

Hi,
I too, am 60. However, I have had the acid reflux (acid traveling back up into the throat)for many years. I keep an over-the-counter product, Prilosec, on hand. It has worked for me, better than anything else that I have tried.
Sometimes, to my shame I get down to the last tablet before purchasing more. When this happens and I have an acid attack, I head to my refrigerator and grab the mustard. Yes, mustard. I read that mustard will combat acid reflux and I put it to the test with satisfying results.
I also, think not overeating heavy meals after 7:00 p.m. has help me not have to take any helpers. I hate take any kind of meds.

Thanks Angelgirl16 madam for being so kind in sharing your experience regarding the indigestion problem.I have noted down the medicine name (Prilosec)and shall find out here in India, but am doubtful who can guide this.Any how, I have planned to make some changes in my daily routine and stop more thinking,as there is also a stress on me.
I am a moderate man and perform yoga. I only eat to live.
No spicy foods and a pure vegetarian.
All +ve attitudes only
I eat before 7.00 p.m. itself. The habit I am accustomed with is after taking meals I need at least 3 hrs only then I get sleep. I cannot sleep just after eating.

I was looking to give you a solution but was not able to put it properly so now I can Mix a few drops of lemon juice with warm water and sip on it. This is useful for treating indigestion, nausea, heartburn.
Check out this solution and let me know.

Thank you so much for the kind sharing of a tip to improve digestion. Yes,this is really interesting and I shall try that for sure.
I do not have a heart burn nor nausea. The acid travels directly to the throat and I feel burning sensation and this lasts for about one hour or continues.

hai busybee10,
my SIMPLE AND WASY ADVICE is drink PLENTY OF HOT WATER
if the problem persists, chew jeeragam( in tamil), and drink hot water.
since you aged 60+, your stomach's digestion process may be slow.
so, add 2-3 tbsp of GEERAGAM/JEERAGAM ( in tamil), boil the water and keep it aside.
when the water cools down, strain or filter the contents and drink the water as and when you can .

We have different ways of taking of our body especially to our digestion.
You have to choose your food to eat.
I was having that problem before. The acid will comes back to my throat. What I did, I made a plan or menu to what food I am going to intake or not.
But before that, I take non acidic vitamin when I wake up in the morning and drinks lots of water. No breakfast yet... Then I take a rest for awhile to give time the vit. c will nutralize the acid in my stomach. Then I noticed that I keep burfing and farting. I visit the toilet frequently to discharge my urine because the acid will go along with the urine. Then keep on drinking water the whole day.
Back to food. I don't eat too much rice, too much bread, biscuit or anything that has lots of acid. You can check it, what is the food that has more acid or acidic rather.
That's is my personal experience, it's up to you to follow it. Since you are over 60 now, you can consult your doctor for better medication.

That is really a good suggestion - the problem with me is after taking food and after a duration of 3 hours (may be after getting digested)the acid gets released and it goes on continuing.
Now,I would like to know what is this non-acidic vitamin you may specify please.I shall try that.
Today I came to know through your discussion that biscuits have lots-of acid.Yes, when I take any biscuits it does not get digested.
