Fake high capacity pen drives

Recently i bought a Kingston 32GB Pen drive from nearby shop and everything on the cover and drive seemed original.....it even worked on my lappy once but after that it never really worked then i followed it up on the kingston website and they told me look for a serial number embeded on the top head of the pen drive and that was not there....then only i came to know that the whole thing was a fake....! If u have faced similar incidents or know methods to counter any fake products please do share....!!!! :-D
