Wrestling is a strange mixture of sports and entertainment but it leads itself to a lot of urban legends. I remember back during the Monday Night Wars, when wrestling was hot, I heard a lot of them around the lunch table. This was before I knew wrestling was predetermined/fake/worked/not real so I believed it. Here are some of the ones that I remember hearing. 1) There are more than one Undertaker or Ultimate Warrior. I think pretty much everyone has heard that one before. Its sad that people still believe it. The Undertaker was the same guy who has been around since 1990. The Ultimate Warrior is the same guy. 2) The Undertaker was killed at Wrestlemania 9 by Giant Gonzales and a new Undertaker took his place. Then the old Undertaker wasn't really dead and the old Undertaker was the fake Undertaker at Summerslam 1994 who turned out to be Kane later on. Yeah, I think that one broke my brain but that was a popular one at school. 3) Eric Bischoff and Vince McMahon are really brothers who had a falling out. 4) Owen Hart/Brian Pillman/Rick Rude aren't really dead. They were the Higher/Great Power. Yeah, that one does seem absurd in hindsight. What do you expect out of a bunch of ten year olds? 5) Yokozuna is going to join the Hart Foundation. 6) The Undertaker is really a robot. Poor Undertaker seemed to get this a lot in the urban legend field. The final two are more recent and fall more into the realm more of conspiracy theory, then urban legends. I don't believe them but they're interesting. 7) Vince Russo was sent to WCW(and later TNA) on a mission from Vince McMahon to sabotage them. Which if this were true, that would leave Vince(both of them) open to quite the lawsuit to be sure. 8) Panda Energy is a front for the WWF(The World Wildlife Fund), to get back at WWE for sullying their letters for many years. No one knows in TNA knows it. Dixie Carter is just a puppet for some higher power. The past several years have been just a long process to lull Vince McMahon into a false sense of security. The Mayans read it wrong. December 21st 2012 is not the day the world will end, but rather that the Pandas will put Vince McMahon and the WWE out of business for good. So have you heard any wrestling urban legends over the years? Feel free to share.
