We’ve had big news in Australia because today Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has been ousted by his deputy Julia Gillard so as of today we have Australia’s first female Prime Minister and to that I say Yeah! Sorry, being a woman I can’t help feel for woman power! Any big news in your word? What do you think about a woman in the top job?

Hi Paula, after a long lapse of mylotting, here I am again reconnecting myself to mylot world. Yes, I am watching your Australian news today here in Bundaberg of the new woman Prime Minister of Australia. It is a big success for women all over the world to see another woman sitting in the highest office of the Government. Being a woman I hope she will discharge her duties without fear or favor.

Hi kalav...I really miss friends here in mylot. Yes, am on a 3 months vacation in Australia right now. But unfortunately I arrived here during the winter months which is a little uncomfortable, a shock for me as am not used to the cold weather. I am with my sister who has just relocated to this new place from Adelaide. Her internet connection was just established yesterday and that explains why I have not been to mylot. This place is called Bundaberg Queensland and it is a nice place to retreat from the busy city life.

Hi Zandi, it is so good to see you back here! So you're in Australia, we live in Western Australia and we have friends in Queensland. You would have seen all the excitement over the new P.M. You can hardly miss it, it's on all the time! I am pleased for the example it gives young women, that indeed they can achieve anything if they put their mind to it! Thanks for responding, great to hear from you again!

I think it depends on the woman. I think Hillary Clinton would be dangerous, I don't think Sarah Palin has the kind of support she would need to get it.

Yes of course. I like Julia Gillard and I hope she does a great job. It is such a breakthrough for us in Australia because it the first time we have ever had a woman in charge. She challenged the male minister for the job and got it. I am not all that knowledgeable in regards to politics but I have heard Sarah Palin doesn't have as much support as she would need. I like to see a woman make it at the top because it will open the door for other ambitious women and that is good to see. Thanks Elic!

I agree ElicBxn, that depends on the experience of a person in politics or public service. i don't care who's the leader he/she should have a executive and legislative (making laws and executing them) experience. besides, the trouble is popularity, and not competence. what if the person is popular but inexperience and prone to corruption, or if they're smart but already corrupt or does not answer allegations. one should not always praise the leader but keep on criticizing him or her since they do the tough job, and we pay our taxes on them. Paula, knowing that you're Female Prime Minister came from the Opposition i hope she does her best to unite the country and not create scenes just like our President here is doing not a referral link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julia_Gillard#Early_life

Why 'sorry ' PAULA? My first response to such an occurrence is one of pride, a peculiar sense of belonging [I feel this on reading or knowing the past history of any great Indian too and I think you can relate to such a feeling]and only later the worries would crop up.Whether it is man or woman a top job is always difficult.A woman at the helm is also likely to show a lot of grit and determination in the face of umpteen obstacles. But still I always say to women who are performers.

Thanks kalav! I don't expect her to become Prime Minister or anything like that, I just want her to pursue what makes her happy whatever that may be. It is good for her to see how far women can go if they so desire.

I feel it is such a breakthrough! I can now show my daughter what women can do instead of just telling her. I don't know how well Ms Gillard will do in the job or how long she will be in her position but regardless of those things she is there and I can say to my daughter, "See... You can do anything if you work hard enough!" Thanks for your great response kalav!

Kim Campbell was PM of Canada in 1993, for about 5 minutes when Mulroney stepped down... actually, 4 months until their party was defeated in the ensuing election.

Yeah, GO GIRL POWER!!! I think that this is a god thing for Australia to finally have a female leader, but the way in which it was done was not all that great. I feel sorry for Kevin Rudd, but perhaps it is his own fault that it came to this. I do not keep up to date with politics, so I do not know all of the ins and outs of the situation. I am not sure if this change in leadership will have any major effect on the country. It is still the same party making the decisions. I would like to see the Greens controlling the country, now that would change things!

I am like you, I don't know a great deal in regards to politics and I am not sure what, if any changes Ms Gillard will bring but it sure is great to finally see a woman in the job; that is history itself! I felt for Kevin Rudd when I watched his farewell speech this morning, he was trying really hard to hold it together, I don't know how he managed to get through all that without breaking down. As far as the Greens controlling the country...Yep, it would be interesting to say the least! Go Julia!!

I think it's great also. Rudd, although he had many good policies, found he couldn't communicate with "working families." If he showed the emotion he showed at his press conference, he wouldn't have been in this position. Could only comminicate in Mandarin, or with the highly educated. And he didn't listen. My only worry now has Julia Gillard made any deals with the way-to-the-left, back room boys who put her there. Only time will tell.

I am happy that a woman finally made it in the top job as it will serve to show young women that anything is possible for females in this country at last! That's really cool! I guess in the last election America got as close as it ever has at having a female President. But Hillary Clinton is NOT someone I would want as President of my country. Not that Obama is doing a bang up job either. I sometimes wonder if she could have done better than him. I just don't know. But it's pretty cool about your new prime minister. Long live the powerful women who know what they are doing!

Well I am proud that finally, after all these years our 27th Prime Minister is a female. As far as how she's going to go, time will tell. I do like her and I pray she will sort out our government which was heading in the wrong direction which is the reason she challenged Kevin Rudd for the job and won. Here's hoping she'll get it right this time. Go Julia, here's to girl power! Thanks for being here Pam!

(LOL) I just pictured her doing that! I am no political expert but apparently the party decided Mr Rudd was not leading the country in the right direction so Julia Gillard challenged him for the top job and got the position. There will more than likely be a general election within six months they say. I am so pleased to finally see a woman up there! Thanks for stopping by BarBara Prz!

congratulations there people! we just had the second female leader (philippines) and i can't deny it had been good and under control during their times. (cory and gloria) most important is the leader has the guts to stand in the midst of all bad issues thrown to him/her and is still able to control his/her government. i cannot deny the efficacy of woman power, from home, mothers are actually the leader of the family as she governs all. father is the great provider of course.

Thanks for your words chiumee, appreciate your contribution!

I'm not surprised that Kevin Rudd bowed out blubbering like a little girl...I guess he knew he wouldn't be successful if he let it go to the in-house vote...I just hope that Julia Gillard can do a good job & try to turn around the things that Kevin Rudd has done...If she does a good job, I won't be shy in saying that I would vote for her.

I hope she is able to prove herself - she's not moving into the PM residence unless we vote her in It's taken her 12 years to get this far since she first started in parliament so I wish her all the best....I do feel sorry for Kevin Rudd but in a way I think he brought it on himself.

Oh yeah, we, that is India had a very powerful lady PM who was respected, admired, feared and hated by world leaders. She was none other than the late Mrs Indira Gandhi who was assasinated in the 80`s.Our present President is also a woman, Mrs Pratibha Patil and the Chief Minister of the biggest state in India, Uttar Pradesh is Miss Mayawati, a very powerful lady. Our neighbour country Pakistan also had Benazir Bhutto as the PM but she was murdered a few years ago. Sri Lanka also had Mrs Sirimavo Bandaranaike and Mrs Chandrika Kumaratunga also as Presidents.the Phillipines also has a woman President.

Hi Paula, I have no problem with women in top jobs. There really isn't any top news like this in our part ofthe world except that UK now has a co-inlition goverment and no matter what we are all going to be a lot worse off because of it VAT is going up from17.5 to 20% for a start and cuts everywhere. Oh well, time to rebudget again lol. Huggles. Ellie :D

Isn't that always the way, no matter who is in power? I can relate to that feeling. Our utilities have gone up by 40% or some ridiculous amount and gas, electricity and water are not things we can do without! Anyway I am at least glad we finally have a woman in power. Let's just hope she does a good job now! Thanks ellie good luck with the budget!
