With all the attention given to the fifa World Cup you may have not been aware of the incredible tennis match that was going on in the Wimbledon Championship yesterday! The match lasted almost 10 HOURSand is still to be completed today - it was still not finished This longest ever tennis match in history was between Nicolas Mahut and John Isner, they both won 2 sets and then fought their way to a 59-all stalemate as it began to get too dark to carry on. I just wonder now if the length of this match will raise the question of fifth set tie-breakers in Grand Slams, which now only happens at the US Open. Did you watch this match, or part of it, and what do you think aboyt the idea of a fifth set tie-breaker?

Finally Isner won the match 70-68!! It was one crazy match and both the players need to take a bow for playing their heart out!! Imagine this, the winner of the FIFA World Cup would not have played so many hours in the entire tournament!! That just sums up the effort both players have put into the match. Cheers! Ram

....Hi there oldchem, I watched the match off and on over the three day period. I actually thought the the French man seemed to be in better condition than the American gentleman. I can't imagine anyone being able to continue to play at that level on both sides for that long a period of time. Such class at the end where they hugged each other. They have made history and suffice it to say I really don't think anyone will break this record. I also think that they will consider some kind of change or cap to be able to end a match, say if you play ten games in the fifth set the next one would be a tie breaker end it all game. The two should be given commercials for long lasting deodorant or something. Quite amazing. The comedown for Isner will be hard he had to play doubles one-half hour after his match ended. Take care.

That is so true, I can't begin to imagine the strain that there must have been on their bodies - it's not like tennis is a gentle sport!!

We were indeed treated to a great bit of tennis history, and those of us who witnessed a little part of it can always remember 'I was there!'

Once I learned it was happening yesterday morning, I watched it on TV and the Internet(when I couldn't get it on TV) starting at what ended up being early in the 5th set. I watched the conclusion on the Internet this morning. A total of 11 hours and 5 mins. for the match. Just about every record is now held by those two for the history of tennis and they will probably never be broken. Both players ended up with over 100 aces with Ishner having the most at 112. Ishner won with the final 5th set score being 70 to 68. Also, it was good that it ended with Ishner hitting a couple of good shots to finally break Mahut and not because of injury or double faults or something.

It was indeed a great performance from both the players... I watched that match on TV simultaneously with the world cup matches...I also watched the Federer match in between, which was a 4 setter.Isner was really impressive and its great to watch him win on the next day.We are really lucky not to have such a match on the Finals...I was really amazed to see that both, including the chair umpire didn't request for a toilet break..

Today we should find out the winner - although to me they are both winners for the stamina they have shown!

Hiya chem, I have not seen this as I like to watch it in English and I can´t so I don´t usually watch it in Spanish. Just sometimes I might watch ten minutes or so of a Tennis Player I like. Rafa Nadal is not my favourite. I prefer to watch Players that are not really famous as it adds intrigue to the outcome. Really I don´t have much of a chance to watch what I want anyway and it´s same for me writing on here I can´t always be on here either especially since the Electric Bill has shot up even though you don´t use any light (grin). I spent an hour on here yesterday looking for old Series of the BBC and I gave up on it in the finish. Enjoy watching the tennis though. I enjoy playing Tennis myself but just for fun with those plastic rackets and sponge tennis balls.

This match was an incredible thing to watch purely because of the length of it!!

OMG it was that long? i did catch a bit of it though. those guys looked really really tired towards the end. i'm not much of a tennis player, but i've always wondered why can't they break up the matches into more manageable bits for the players..

Yes,the time was exactly 10 hours when the play was suspended because of the poor light at just after 9pm last night!

I didn't see this on TV at the time, but I was just watching the report on the News. Those poor guys looked exhausted and no wonder! I can't imagine playing tennis for so many hours! I hope they get to finish their game quickly once it restarts!!

What incredible stamina they must have, their shirts looked wet through!! I think that they wanted to carry on, it certainly looked that way but it was beginning to get dark!
