California is now learning that their welfare cards at a lot of casinos. The state government is just learning this and are now taking steps to stop this and see how much money was used in casinos.
Kind of clears up why the state of California has a $19 billion deficit!
Do you think any action should be taken against the people withdrawing money at a casino?

I'm curious as to how many people actually used their welfare cards for this purpose. What I see more of is that women with kids get welfare and let boyfriends move in and they don't have to claim their income unless they are the father ! So the boyfriend moves in with a decent job and pays minimal rent or no rent but gets to save his money and eventually they get to buy a house. If they are in government housing and if she is not claiming his income as a tenant then it is not unlikely that she will be paying next to nothing for rent. In the meantime they have his income...unclaimed...coming into the household.

I believe the atms are a part of a chain that accepts them. and I also believe there was a significant amount using them at casinos.
The cards, provided by the Department of Social Services to help recipients feed and clothe their families, work in automated teller machines at 32 of 58 tribal casinos and 47 of 90 state-licensed poker rooms, the review found.

whoa.that's crazy.
10 to one people have probably still done that in the days of checks,but..
man.i guess they could penalize them technically, but unless they made that card only to function at certain machines,i'm sure people will still do it.

Welfare is for people who can't afford to pay their bills... not for people who can afford to gamble it away! I say take the welfare away from those who want to abuse it.
