In mourning for my cat

My cat disappeared about four weeks ago. We had raised George from a kitten, and he was about six years old. Then we heard from one of the neighbors that a fellow who moved in around the block had put out poison to keep the cats out of his yard. We live in a rural area, and George was an outside cat. I don't think he is coming back, and I miss him terribly.

Oh no, I am so sorry to hear that. :( :( But if there's somebody that you think is poisoning animals/pets, that has to be stopped immediately. I would definitely find out more if you can and report it.

Also, maybe try putting up missing cat signs?

Good suggestion. I am looking into the options to find out the best course of action to stop the alledged animal hater. If someone will investigate, he may even go to jail. Signs are going up today. Thanks.

That is soo wrong for a person to put poison down to stop cats from going in their gardens,as cats like to explore aswell as mark the areas that they live in aswell as live near. The lady who lives next to me thought her cat had been killed or lost, but 3 years later the cat was sitting on her door step when she got home,so there is always hope for you.My cat was missing for nearly 3weeks and that was due to a woman taking it in thinking that it was noone cat, so maybe that has happened to yours.

Thanks for your encouragement. I am still holding out hope that George is alive somewhere. being cared for by someone, and will eventually come back home.

and that is why my cats are all inside cats the CRAZY lady - who used to live across the street - once called and said that we needed to get "our" black cat out of her yard or she'd poison it my roomie, who answered the phone, told her that all our cats are inside ONLY and, by the way, its a crime to poison animals another time she called and said that our "white and black dog" was in her yard well, excuse me, but that white and black dog was on the bed next to my roomie at the time did I mention she was crazy?

Pet-hating neighbors are a pet lover's bane. They ARE crazy to threaten and kill other people's animals. IMO animals should be protected and loved. I am friendly with all my neighbors' pets, wouldn't dream of hurting any of them.

hello clrumfelt, My condolence on your loss my friend. that's one main reason why i never allow my ponchi to leave the house even though he's in the terrace and not allowed inside the house.but i remember him occasionally going outside and not going home until he gets bored. one night i was waiting for him to go back inside the gate while he runs around, he got rolled by a tire and it was painful to him, i thought he could have squashed but he didn't. he made it and still alright but am sure he got traumatized and he's no longer going outside.

Thanks for your comments. If George comes back we will have him neutered and he may be more content to stay inside instead of chasing after the females in our neighborhood.

Thanks. He isn't home yet, but I am still watching for him. I have adopted one of his daughters from the neighbor. She is the spitting image of George. We call her Sophie.

Mine was too but came back everyday. Honestly, one day he didn't and never had. Been wondering since what had happened. I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry for your loss, too. George wandered a lot chasing females, but he always came in to eat within three days. I'm still hoping for his return. We have adopted one of his kittens from a neighbor. I know she is one of his because she is the same color and her markings are very similar.

You know cats have away off making their way back to their love ones and home. I am verry sorry for your lose. That is terrible that someone would do that to any animal. I hope and pray that he/she returns home and healthy. Take care Snow

Thanks for your kind words. I haven't given up on him yet. He used to go away for days chasing female cats, but never this long.

Oh No!... Maybe you should file a complaint on that person.. That's animal cruelty. I believe that should be against the law. I really hope you find George back. If you don't, Then get another cat to cheer you up. :(

It is against the law to put out poison for animals. If we had conclusive proof we would file a complaint with our state wildlife agency and Humane Society.
