Why not the World Cup holds every year?

I don't understand why the World Cup has to hold every four years, as well as the Olympic Games. I think the time takes so long. Why not just hold it every year as well as other sports?

hi youless I think it has to do with overplaying the players and having burned out key players that would gum up all the games so they just have them every four years instead. I am not much on soccer, football and cricket so it doesnt bother me too much but I wish they would have the Olympics every two years instead.

hi youless, if the world cup is held every year we will lose the thrill of the world cup it is better to be held in every 4 years .so we will have that much excitement and surprises to watch. if it is held every year we will lose all these excitement and fun.there is no much important for it if it is held every year .so i will always suggest that world cup to be held in every 4 years that is something every one would like .

Perhaps you are right. The time makes soccer fans to be anxious.

If we are going to have world cup every year, then we no longer feel that it's great. It's like if we are having celebration everyday, the celebration looks normal and we won't get excited about it anymore. Besides, it would be very tiring to follow the world cup game on yearly basis. It's expensive to host such a worldwide event, and the preparation needs a lot of effort.

Thanks for agreeing with me on this. In fact I do not know the actual reason why the World Cup had to be held every four years. I think it might have something to do with the past tradition or history. However, I really think that it's good to be in such a way. The longer we anticipate an event, the more grand it will be. Happy posting and have a nice day!

It is just like the Olympics. It is so intense it Needs the cool off time in between.this way every few years a new team is formed and you don't get a Dynasty being formed.

I am enjoying watching the matches. Because of the time difference , the matches are airing in the morning. on the days I'm off , I have been watching. In fact I had my T.V. set up so I could see the U.S. game and England's game at the same time! thank G-d for picture in picture!

With it being held every four years means that you have a Major international Tournament every two years with the Continents individual Tournaments. If you had The World Cup every year then you would end up with burnt out players.

it is because if it is every year, people will lose their interest in world cup event and other sports. they will be normal for them and they will not come and watch. it will be great loss for them because when they will not find people coming in ground how will they run those leagues and many many more things??? they have to think about money too

youless, FIFA World Cup is a worldwide event with participants coming all over the world for this major event and as such there will be a lot of qualification matches to be played before the tournament can be held for the final 24 places to be played at the venue. I am sure you are aware that most of these players involved in the World Cup are actually professional players playing in their own domestic professional leagues which have their seasons. So, FIFA has to take into consideration of the time constraints for regional qualifications rounds to be held during the span of 4 years before the actual final tournament. Regional qualification will take into consideration like Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football(CONCACAF), Confederation of African (CAF), Union of European Football (UEFA), Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) where every one of these bodies will have their sporting events to support and participate. So, the 4 years is not just merely waiting but there will be regional world cup qualifiers competitions for all the participating countries to play and qualify without any conflict of schedules both domestic and international. It is also done so that the players do not risk unnecessary injuries and at the same time allow every country to prepare their national squad for the competition and tournament.

youless, I think everyone has to understand just why the Olympics or FIFA World Cup are so exciting to watch. In the first place both these events are what everyone would call the epic of sports or the peak of every athlete. Like the Olympics, not every one who says he/she can run, swim or be a strong competitor in certain discipline will be allowed into the arena to compete. The athlete will have to first qualify for the nationals to represent his/her country, then there will be the regional meets all the way up to individual world meets to let athletes prove their qualification for the Olympics. Take swimming for example, if a swimmer wants to represent his/her country in the Olympics, then he/she will have to either win a recognized and FINA sanctioned regional or world meet and his/her timing must be with the top 3 timings of the last Olympics before he/she can be considered a potential Olympiad participant. If not, then he/she will have to undergo a national Olympics time trial in their own country and swim with the qualification times to be selected. As you can see from here, the Olympics and World Cup is not just some reality talent show but it is the ultimate selected of each and every region. It is not easy for any athlete to reach Olympics or World Cup and the feeling is just overwhelming - can you remember one of the North Korean player breaking down before kickoff of his match against Brazil? If you read how his team had arrive to compete in South Africa and all the struggles and heart-wrenching sacrifices to train and compete, I am sure you too will be moved. Read: North Korea's road to South Africa 2010 (2007) http://soccernet.espn.go.com/world-cup/team/qualify/_/id/4860/north-korea?cc=4716&ver=global I have been through some of the toughest training regimes and I know how they feel. So, when the North Korean was shedding his tears, I just understand and know where and how he arrived to that stage.

Its a matter of organizing the cup that matters though it is not impossible.Qualifying rounds take most of the time rather than the 32-nation finals.I think time is not enough for comfortable hosting and management of the tournament every year.It can also take the sheen away from the world cup if held at yearly spans.

It really needs some time to prepare for the World Cup well.

World cup is the biggest tournament just after Olympic for most of the sports. Its need a very big big arrangements and preparations to introduce and complete successfully. Moreover if Olympic and World Cup holds every year then the attraction will go down as many opportunities will come in every year for the participants. The willings and urge to perform well in every four years will come down each and every year which cannot make a proper preparation for the players. So its better that it holds once in every four years. Thats much better, if they want to reduce, they can make it once in every three years but not less than that. Else there would be lots of effects which would not lift up the games but lower down.

It would not be the same thing, so many expectation would not generate if it was done every year, to part many conflicts would be generated between the leagues and the clubs by the players, they do not have sufficient time to be in his selected ones.

I think it's because it takes so long to prepare for it. The organisers need the time, plus the althletes also need the time to train up to standard too, it's not really possible to have so many top athletes competing every year, as many need to rest after competing, and wouldn't be able to keep training for the following as it would risk injury...I think that is why...

Maybe every four years makes World Cup more valuable. And fans will engjoy this big party. But if the World Cup has to hold every years, I think World Cup will lose her charm.

It is already good enough for your country to join in the World Cup. My country even didn't have the qualification to go to the World Cup because they play it badly.
